Sunrise. It was always a pretty time, the sky all dressed in it's best colours and the promise of a new day ahead. Today though it was cloudy and damp, the vibrant oranges of clear summer days faded and obscured by patches of dull grey. Elpis sighed and shook her head, tasting the air lightly as she did so.

"I woke up early for nothing," she commented aloud so that her companion might share this state of affairs. Misery, or in this case mild disappointment and sleepiness, loves company.

The ginger-haired woman cracked open first one jade-green eye and then the other. She groaned and sat up, pushing her fingers into the mess of coarse strands as far as they would go before getting tangled. "Erg," she complained, shooting her wyrm friend a look of sleepy disgruntlement. "You really are a sadist, aren't you Elpie?" She'd been having a really good dream too.

The blue-gold serpent chuckled and stuck her tongue out, mimicking the humanoid affectation rather well. "You knew that about me when we bonded, no use bemoaning it now dearest Jade." Oh but she did love to annoy this creature of her's.

The human, apparently named Jade, stuck her tongue out in return and clambered from her bedroll into her britches in short order. "Alright, fair point," she sighed as she tucked her shirt in and grabbed her belt. As she stooped to pull on her boots, the vivid-haired woman peered up at the sky. "Really is a boring looking day, isn't it?"

Red eyes smiled down at the female human, who was now setting about rolling up her bed and tying it to her pack. "Indeed it is my love, but appearances can be oh-so deceptive, wouldn't you say?"

Jade grinned into the steel mirror she had just extracted from her belongings and crinkled her nose. Her olive skin darkened a notch. "Quite right Elpie," she smiled as she slipped the polished piece of metal away, "quite right indeed." Who needed a lovely sunrise to believe the day would be a good one? She and her wyrm, they made their own luck, their own intrigue and... Humm, their own breakfast would be a good next step actually.

Scowling at her rumbling stomach, the green-eyed human dropped down into the grass and yanked her pack over in order to haul out a hide-wrapped package of smoked fish. "Today," she predicated as she unwrapped it and took a chunk of the flesh, "will be a good day."

Elpis dipped her head and grabbed a morsel for herself. "Just as you say my dear," she replied silently as the fish went down, "just as you say."
