First up.Name: Wile
Occupation: Lamest mage ever. Not only is he virtually unable to use his magic, it wouldn't do any good even if he could. He's just that lame.
Personality: Total wimp. Shy, timid, hesitant to do anything, and constantly apologizing, often for things totally out of his control (well, everything is, but still). Unlike a lot of seemingly timid characters, there is not flint burried under there somewhere, and assuming otherwise would be a huge mistake. If he's gonna have any spine at all, he's gonna have to build it verabrae by freaking vertabrae. Not really a deep thinker, as he's more or less in a constant state of panic.
Motivations: Frightened. He is rather too well aware of the fact that everything dies, as he is a necromancer and, true to the name of his magic, works primarily with death. He would be fatalistic if he weren't so shortsighted, but... he is. Probably the wear and tear of permanent Fight of Flight reactions. Also, I hate to put this here, but... gullible. He stays with Icar because Icar says so, then spies on Icar because Talin says so. He never needs a reason, never questions anything.
Development During Story: Yes, Wile gets a backbone, along with formulating his own ideas about how the world works and more or less developing morals. Still can't use his magic enough to challenge a god, and his magic isn't the challenging gods type, anyway.

Name: RoraOccupation: Mildly useless protagonist
Personality: Reasonably blank. Always a little spaced-out. Naturally suspicious, even if she doesn't have a clue what's going on. Besides, that, not particularly curious about anything. Naive (obviously). Somewhat sympathetic, even if she doesn't trust people. Doesn't relate well to death. Never does, even at the end of the story.
Motivation: Suspicion, being thrown into the middle of things. Later on, as her compassion develops, that as well. Boredom, to some degree, and a lack of self-preservation instinct, although later on she has an aversion to pain. Really, she just does what she does because she doesn't see an alternative- she was thrown into the middle of this conflict and people keep involving her in it.
Development During Story: She gets a personality. Stays suspicous, but more compassionate. At one point develops a rather childish version of right and wrong, but that gets shot all to hell. Always a bit of a simpleton, appearing rather brainwashed. Never relates well to death, as mentioned above, as she... doesn't really understand it. Even seeing people die doesn't make her understand. Never really gets responsibility, either. Doesn't consider it too important.
Name: EbryOccupation: Same as Rora.
Personality: Again with the blankness. Unlike Rora, he is exceedingly curious, and feels great satisfaction at completing things. Or... as much as he can, seeing the whole brainwashed bit. Really, really terrible judgement. The kind of person who always goes into the basement when the lights go out, even if they've watched a thousand horror movies. On the flip side, not exactly what you'd call nice. Would probably disect people live if he wasn't kept busy. Maybe that's just a lack of empathy. Who knows.
Motivation: Curious, mostly, and again with the bad judgement. Although he eventually develops an aversion to both pain and death, unlike Rora, these aren't really strong- more like a mild annoyance than a taboo. Also likes to get things done.
Development During Story: In some ways, a lot less than Rora. He too has to learn about pain and death, but he does so for both, even though he still doesn't really care. Gets to be ever the slightest bit cautious, but... well... yeah. Still acts pretty much like he did in the begining- a bit clueless. Learns to form oppinions, to some degree, but it isn't a big one.
