Wow, it's gorgeous so far. I've never tried paiting realistically, so, I probably couldn't give you many helpful tips. |D The only thing I can tell you is to maybe make the shading a little softer- I mean, blur the changing colors so they look smoother.
Great job so far, though. I love NANA, this is giving it a lot of justice. ^^

oh man. i feel sorry for you, 5 hours! thats gotta suck..my butt starts hurting after 2 hours or so lol very nice work though
spose you want to be faster though? just try to keep the amount of strokes you use to a minimum, and dont keep working and working on the one area for too long, it makes it get all choppy, and you lose foucus after a while so take a break every hour or so.
its also good to use purples and blues in realistic painting, cos if you look closely at pictures you can see purples etc in the shadows, light has colour, remember that. the purple really makes a big difference, livens the whole thing up!
another trick is to make the 'canvas' (background) a colour other than white, cos white puts off your colour sense and makes you see the colours as being lighter or darker than they really are...also it really starts to hurt and damage you eyes when you have to stare at it for a long time. i always make it green lol, but dont make it a really neon-bright colour eiter cos thats almost as bad for your eyes lol
wooooooow lots of writing, hope i helped anyways, good luck with your picture! its gunna be awesome i can tell
