so, it's about that time... midterms are starting to approach (or already are if your school starts earlier, ie- the South Eastern US.) what do you think about midterms? Are they really hard for you? stressful? better or worse than normal exams? what type of tests/midterms to you prefer: essay, fill in the blank, multiple choice, a mix of different types, etc.? I know I'm personally not really freaking out anymore than normal tests since half of my classes are doing the 3 tests and a final thing, so I don't have too much to worry about there. I've already got one out of the way and the other is today (in a little over an hour, actually, lol.)

we don't get such nice things as a fall break at my school (UCF in Orlando, FL), but we do get out within the first week of December, so we have a little over a month for a break, it's quite nice. A lot of the schools around here really don't let you off for fall break unless they're really big into politics (we have a few very liberal colleges in the state that let kids off, since it's traditionally an attempt to get kids to help out in campaigns and elections and we're a Red state, heh)

Wow, I didn't know that. A bit over a month for winter break is cool, plenty of time to unwind before going back.

Yea, most of my professor give 4 tests a semester, exam 1, midterm, exam 3, and the final. sometimes they're jerks and only give a midterm and a final and that's all for the grade. I hate classes like that, the stress level just skyrockets. my midterms are almost over, but I'm still waiting on the midterm papers that were turned in separately (History majors get pwned with writing)

really for me it depends on my teachers... I'm going through midterms right about now. I had one today and it was semi hard.. my teacher can't speak english and it's a history class. She gave us review sheets a day and a half before the midterm and the whole class HAD to convince her to give us a review.. it was horrible.. all i have to say is there are some horrible teachers who don't know how to properly give midterms... my other midterms are coming up next week and the teachers that are giving them gave us all review sheets this week (giving us a week or so to study) so they should be fine, there was only the one i took today that i was really worried about.

I totally agree with this, some people just should not teach. Period. I really think study/review sheets are very helpful and you can get the kids to study a heck of a lot more but listing a good deal of stuff, some of which won't be on the test. It's also especially helpful, in my opinion, for tests where you have essays, helps you make a more well-rounded arguments.

I have one exam and two papers for midterms, which isn't as bad as it *has* been, but still. I have a five page paper due tomorrow on Japanese literature and how much I can not get into it. Well...it's about poetry in courtship culture (Heian period, specifically), but my tone and frustration thoughout the paper will let the prof know I hate it.
Boo, midterms. : (
