Yeah, sure Wikipedia isn't the most scholarly source of information, and shouldn't be used in research papers. It's still the best site I've found to get a quick overview on any topic you're interested in. Back in high school, when I had free mods, I would type random things into the Wikipedia search box and learn things! I was supposed to be doing my homework, but hey, at least I was exercising my brain!

You know when you're reading an article in Wikipedia, and all sorts of words are links to other articles? I love clicking on those words, and then clicking on words in the article that takes me to, and so on until I can't remember where I started. Wikipedia surfing.

This thread is temporary. Basically, what I want is ideas for how we could turn Wikipedia surfing into an intelli-type contest. Some initial ideas I had:

1. Each contest uses a specific "start" article and "goal" article.
2. Points are awarded based on how many steps you take to get from the start article to the goal article (with less steps earning more points).
3. Only "see also" links at the bottom of articles may be clicked (to make it harder).
4. You must prove that you read each article you use (without copy/pasting sentences) because we are, after all, attempting to learn stuff.

Does anyone have ideas for how this could work? How to set up the scoring system? Prize suggestions? Start/goal articles? Anything at all?

Post all ideas, and general encouragement as well. Once we have all the details figured out, I'll start the contest in my Zig-Zag.

Wow, that sounds like a really awesome contest! I have no idea how to make it work, but I love the idea!

I love it! I used to do that all the time. That, and the 'Random Page' button. 3nodding When are you going to start?

That's interesting... Also, there could be another one that's like go to 15 pages, and see who has the most random end page. Maybe working off of the featured article, or on of the daily facts.

This reminds me of the wikihopping game. See how many steps before you end up at something sex-related.
