What to do, what to do. He was in such a rush to let his mother know that he was going to leave, but he had rushed back to the spot where Jina was, just to double check with her where they might be going, just so he could mention it tto his mother...and she was gone! Gone!

Feo was a bit heartbroken. Sure, she was just another nice face, but Feo...kind of liked her. Was that it? Maybe, but he didn't know. He'd never really liked a girl like that before. Should he talk to his mom about it? How embarassing....but, he really needed someone to talk to at the moment!

He had rushed hom to the den, but shyly peeked his head in once he had reached it. "Mom?"

Shomoro was in the middle of a well-deserved nap with cubs who were finally asleep when one of their older siblings came calling. She blinked her eyes open reluctantly at the sound of Feo's voice before very carefully rising and tiptoeing out of the den. She wasn't about to wake the sleeping litter up, not now that she had some peace and quiet!

The huntress loved her children, of course, but they had a way of tiring her out. Fortunately, the older ones had mostly grown out of it. "Feo," she purred, bumping her head against his shoulder affectionately, "What is it?"

Like any good mother, she could tell that something seemed...off about her son.

Feo was so pleased to see that his mother was there. So pleased that he didn't even notice his younger sibilings taking a nap right there, or that he even woke his mother up. While he was grateful for his mother, he would never really know just how much she did for him until he became a parent.

Hah.

Feo's red eyes quickly averted away from his mother, uncertainty eating at him again. Ugh! Why did he have to decide to ask his mother? Embarassing! But there was no wiggling his way out of this one. He would just have to suck it up and deal.

"Uhhh...um," he stumbled. "Mom, uh...what, what do I do when someone promises you that they'll be there and they just leave?" Great, very...vague. Stupid, stupid.

Very vague, indeed. Shomoro tilted her head, black-tipped ears coming forward in concerned interest. Something had Feo on edge, embarassed...desperate? He was coming to her, after all, and not one of his brothers or friends.

"I guess that would depend on who," she answered slowly, "And why they were waiting for you in the first place." It was not only true, but a good way of prying to know more! Shomoro was quite a nosy lioness, especially when it came to her children.

"Umm, well." The dark gold lion's cheeked flushed a bit, not realizing the crafty way that his mother was getting information out of him. Feo wasn't the smartest cookie when it came to talking. He had a bad habit of just letting things slip out of his tongue without realizing it. Not the best secret keeper in the Pridelands.

"Well, I promised her that I'd go with her, but when I went back to our spot she was gone and I can't find her!" he exclaimed, all in one breath as well. He looked at his mother with pleadful eyes, hoping that she could fix this as simply as she had fixed everything when he was younger. He didn't know any better.

Her? Go with her? Who was her?! And just where was he intending to go with her? Shomoro wasn't exactly disapproving yet, but that could change in an instant with Feo's next answers. "Oh, 'her'?" she inquired, green eyes watching her son sharply. "Where were the two of you supposed to be going?"

Decidedly less crafty and more direct, but crafty meant getting answers more slowly!

Uh oh. Regret filled his stomache, and it felt heavier then an wet elephant. He had said a little too much, a little too soon. He glanced around to see if there was anything, anything that he could use to distract her, but nothing seemed to be anywhere close. So instead, he tried to look as pitiful and apologetic as possible, his ears glued to his skull.

"Well, umm...she's trying to look for her mother, and I just sorta wanted to know what else was out there...? Heh?" His statement turned into something like a question, as if asking if that was the right thing to say, a foolish grin flashing across his face. Hopefully she wouldn' pry more; there was nothing more that he could avoid but his mother's glare!

Hmm. Hmmm. Shomoro continued to eye her son with a look bordering on suspicion for several moments more before relenting just a little. Her expression softened a touch as she thought.

She might be protective, even overprotective, but she wasn't a dictator. She couldn't and wouldn't forbid her children from seeking their own way; she had no intentions of turning into her mother. "Well," she said shortly, "In that case!"

"I would have waited."

After a moment passed to let the words click in Feo's head, his body language changed quite quickly. His ears perked up again, his eyes widening in a bit of shock. So his mother would of waited for him! Why did Jina not?

His joy and shock soon grew to concern, though. Deeep concern, as much as the fledgling adult could allow. Hmmmmm. So, then maybe he wasn't a total screw up, but she still left, and pretty much, left him. Did that make him a bad guy?

"But Mom, I don't get why she left." His tail flicked behind him, his mind just starting to grasp at the situation with a little more then cubish attitude. He was starting to think like an adult, thinking outside of the realm of himself.

Shomoro laughed - she couldn't help it! Feo, it seemed, had mistaken her words. "I mean if I were you, I would have waited. There are any number of reasons she might not have been there! Maybe she was delayed for some reason."

"Of course, she might have changed her mind, too," she mused, her expression sympathetic. It would mean her son would be staying, but that wasn't much good if he wasn't happy.

Feo was embarassed again, but his determination seemed to push it away as he spoke up again. "O-oh. But, but Mom, I looked for her and couldn't find her! She's not that hard to find, she's got a p-pretty black coat and there's not that many that have them here and..." he paused to take a breath. He really needed to learn how to pace himself when talking.

"I hope she didn't....I feel aweful. What if I said something wrong to her, and she just hid it so I wouldn't know? Why are girls so hard to read, Mom?" His red eyes gazed back down at his darkened toes, picking at the ground in front of him. Sometimes he wished he had a buddy or someone to talk to but...he was sure his brothers would just tease him if he asked.

"So does your brother," she added with just a touch of lightheartedness she hoped might comfort him a little, "And Sheshe, and my friend Mosi too." And most likely even more than that! The Pridelands was full of astonishing variety.

..why would anyone in their right mind want to leave it? Shomoro sighed lightly. "That's just how we are, I'm afraid." She laid a paw overtop one of his as he picked anxiously at the ground. "I can't really say why she wasn't there, Feo...to be honest, there isn't much I can do but begin to guess. I don't know her, otherwise I might be more help."

"I'm sorry, dear." And she really was - seeing her son like this was terrible.

His heart sunk, and his tail and head soon followed that movement. She didn't know? While it wasn't a shock to his system, it was disconcerting that his mother didn't, couldn't know everything. He stood there for a moment, swaying a bit as he wrapped himself up in his thoughts. How was he to fix this? There certainly wasn't a quick way of doing it, that's for sure.

His eyes soon found his mother's green ones, and he stared at her, blankly, before a small idea wormed it's way into his mind. "If I see her again, should I apologize to her? Should I venture a tiny bit from home to see if she stayed close?" He treasured his mother's opinion, and knowing how she felt would influence his opinion, but perhaps not his heart.

"An apology probably wouldn't go amiss," she mused, "Just in case." The truth was, the advice she could give only went so far; Shomoro had never been in love, never even had a crush. She'd spent nearly all her life in the company of no one but her mother, after all. She didn't even want a mate - nights here and there with rogues she'd never see again were just fine by her. Ultimately, it was the children that those nights had given her that mattered.

"Perhaps you should stay here, though...if she comes back, chances are she'll be looking for you, and you'll be easier to find that way." A little like what you were supposed to do if you got lost, really.

Feo sad his butt down on the soft ground with a 'hrumph'. Sitting and waiting was the last thing that he wanted to do now. How could he wait? But he knew that was his mother spoke was the truth. With a defeated look, his eyes averted away from his mother. He couldn't look at her now, she'd know just what he was thinking. She might know what he was thinking anyway, but he couldn't lie when he was looking her in the eye.

"Yes, mother. I suppose I should." He sighed again, not trying to look horribly pitiful, but he wasn't doing a very good job in hiding it, and acting like an adult. "Thanks for the advice though," he said with a shrug.
