She'd been sleeping, as was her habit. Well, not sleeping, exactly. Dozing and drifting somewhere between asleep and awake. The branch swayed gently, rocking her ever closer to her dreams. Until one hindleg slipped out from under her and Merpati lost her balance. Before she could fully catch herself, she'd slipped most of the way off the branch. Now she dangled, hind legs kicking, tail flailing as she tried to find something to keep her from dropping toward the floor so far (not really that far) below. "Help me, please!"

"Woah, hold on there!"
And just before the kit Tokora could lose her grip entirely on the branch, a dark green paw reached down and plucked her up off the branch, picking her up and sitting back with her carefully.
Sendiri to save the day, and all that rot. Even if it was by, y'know, complete accident. "Are you okay?" He asked, his eyebrows furrowed in concern for the cub. "Did you slip?" That was his second concern. It happened enough times, but if something had knocked her out of the tree...
The pack had to be alerted and moved for the sake of safety.

She kicked her legs harder when she heard the adults voice. Maybe, somehow, that would keep her on the branch just a little longer! When he picked her up, though, she stopped kicking. If she kicked him and he dropped her, it'd be an even longer fall.
So feet against her chest and tail tucked close to her body until she felt the solid branch beneath her. Even then, she relaxed only a little. Enough to lean against him unapologetically. "I slipped," she confessed. "I was just resting a little, and then I was falling." She peered down at the ground. "I didn't want to fall."

Sendiri held the kit, glancing down at the ground beneath the tree uneasily. It really was quite a long fall. He set the kit down in front of him after she'd confessed to falling, and nodded a little at her, smiling gently.
"Then it's a good thing I was here to save you, wasn't it?" The jokester of a Tokora gave Merpati a wide grin, and then he tilted his head. "I'm Sendiri." He greeted, pointing at himself. Then he reached forward, and poked Merpati right on the nose, eyes dancing mischieviously. "What's yours, li'l kit?"
Now that the danger had passed for him, Sendiri was back to the carefree pranking Tokora that he normally was. And some Tokora thought he couldn't ever be serious. Pfft!

She squeaked, blinked and rubbed her nose where it'd been poked. Startled? Yes, a little. Hurt, no. "I'm very lucky," she agreed. "I wouldn't bounce very well."
She fluffed her tail, though, and summoned up a smile. "It's nice to meet you, Sendiri. I'm Merpati."

Sendiri nodded to what the cub had said, and smiled widely in return at her name. "That's a very pretty name." He nodded sagely, then looked around. "Where's your mother, little Merpati?" He asked, frowning a little. It wasn't usual for a mother to leave their kit hanging. Proverbially or literally, in this case.
He glanced down. "Are you hungry?" He knew he tended to jump from subject to subject, but... that wasn't entirely his fault. His attention span was the equivalent of a teaspoon's, the poor thing.

"Thank you." She beamed. She quite liked her name, herself. She looked worried at the next question, though. "She's sleeping," she told Sendiri quickly. "Don't wake her up, please? If she knew I almost fell, she wouldn't let me stay outside ever again. Please say you won't, please?" She worked herself up until she was nearly out of breath.
Then her stomach growled and panic turned into embarrassment again. "A little," she confessed.

Sendiri laughed outright when she worked herself up into a panic trying to explain where her mother was. He waved her off, amused, and shook his head. "Now who am I to begrudge a little curiousity now and then?" He smirked at her, and grinned, getting up.
"I'll be right back." And, like that, he was off to go find his and Aiden's stash of fruits. As quickly as he'd disappeared out of sight, though, he was back again, holding out a ripe and fairly large fruit for her to take. "Here y'go." He beamed at her. "Something nice to make up for your scare." Sendiri sat down again, amused, and leaned back a little, holding onto the branch so he wouldn't fall.

"Well, some think I'm too small to do anything on my own," she huffed a bit. "And that just isn't true. How can I learn to do anything if all I'm allowed is to go where everyone else goes?"
She hung on while Sendiri went for food. Not that the branch jostling scared her. She had an excellent grip on it now. When he came back, her nose twitched at the scent of the fruit. She behaved herself, though, waiting politely until it was offered. She said a thank you and sat, holding it close, and turning it on her paws as she decided where to bite first.
She paused, though and glanced up, abruptly curious again. "Where were you going before you helped me?"

Sendiri smirked a little at Merp's little rant on being too small to do anything, and shook his head. He remembered how that had been, he could feel for the girl. Of course, he was probably one of the reasons why a cub should never be unattended, but we'll ignore that little informational tidbit.
He nodded to her thanks, grinning, and then blinked when she'd asked where he had been going. "...." Where had he been going? "I... actually don't remember." He snorted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head with one paw. "... Oh!" He laughed. "I wasn't going anywhere, to be honest. Just looking for new fruit to add to my hoard for Aiden." He explained, grinning at her. "He's my brother."
It came so natural, it wouldn't be easily known that it wasn't entirely true.

Merpati ohhhed and took a bite of fruit. "There's lots of good ones around," she informed him after she'd swallowed. As if he hadn't delivered an excellent example just moments ago. "But not the ones that fall on the ground. Those get squishy and smell bad."
"Aiden, Aiden," she said, after she'd had another bite. "That's a nice name too. I don't think I know him, though. Is he Udara?" Oops. Blink. "Are you?"

Sendiri nodded in agreement to Merpati's advice about the fruit, grinning. "That's why I was up here." He said, shrugging. He looked around. "Usually I'm a little higher up, though..." He snorted a little at his own comment, and then grinned at her. "But you never know, sometimes perfectly good fruit fall. If they don't get mushy." He made a face. "That's just the worst kind of fruit."
"We both are Udara." He nodded to her, amused. "I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't met him, though. Aiden's a shy little kit." He snorted. "Bright as the sun, though." Literally. Poor bee-colored Aiden.

"But you have to be fast to get the good fruit when it falls." She considered him a minute, then decided, "You could probably get it."
She beamed again. "We're Udara too. That's good. My mother says you can always trust the Udara." She paused again. "Is he too shy to go outside much?"

Sendiri grinned a little and nodded. "I think I could." He said, chest swelling up dramatically to make himself look big and 'brave'. Then his tail curled around the branch, and he exhaled dramatically, going as far as to push himself off the branch. He hung then by his tail, grinning up at Merpati.
"You can always trust the Udara. Because we're the fun lovin' bunch." He grinned wickedly and swung to and fro, amused. Then his grin faltered a little, and he shrugged. "Kind of, yeah." He snorted. "He doesn't like comin' out too much, unless I'm with him." Sendiri grinned a little.

Merpati squeaked and nearly dropped her fruit when Sendiri went off the branch. She scooted as close to the edge as she dared, as quickly as possible, and looked at the ground first. She didn't want to see him splatted down there, but if he was hurt...
Of course he wasn't splatted. She spotted him swinging and puffed out a breath of relief. Then, very slowly, she smiled, "Maybe you could bring him out to play, some time. I bet you could teach him to swing like that."
