Here's a mini-campaign for all of you! Mini Campaigns consist of only a thread and are not particularly elaborate, but they do feature a GM- in this case, me. They'll be under the Spontaneous RP forum, of course, since they're not THAT different.

It will be a test of my new Simple Roleplaying Game (SRPG). Don't be daunted! You create your character exactly as you want as in freeform, and then I'll assign you stats. More to come on the respective forum for the system!

The RP thread is here, you must be accepted here to post there.

The story is as follows:
In the island of Feadora, four kingdoms were living in peace, defending themselves from pirates and other such outsider threats in relative unity. The northern kingdom of Vadania consisted of hardy humans which lived in the mountains and the valleys, trading with the local dwarves. They are hard-working, somewhat uncouth but honest folk, and while their kingdom was large, it was somewhat disorganized without much of a central government. The southeastern kingdom of Lania was the opposite, highly organized and wealthy due to trades with its neighbours, with most of the people receiving at least some education, but the upper echelons of society where plagued by intrigue and backstabbing. It had a standing army and many colleges of magic. The western kingdom of Tamilf was similar to Lania in culture, but was far more powerful due to the powerful steam engines of the master gnomish engineers working for their human employers. The last kingdom was unique, because it was situated in the eastern shores of the island, and it was almost completely covered in woodlands steeped in magic, where the elvish realm of Fialador along with a few halfling settlements resided.

That was a century ago. On the eve of a comet's passing, a massive orcish invasion was unleashed upon Lania's shores, defeating its military before the reinforcements could arrive. But the orcs were not simple invaders or even conquerors, because after they established beachhead, a contingent of dark elven warriors and sorcerers secured an old monument that even the Lanian wizards were not aware of its origins or functions. But it was a gateway, leading to some hellish dimension, which when activated poured thousands oemonic spawn to do combat for their dark masters. The massive war that followed resulted in the almost complete destruction of Lania and the weakening of the other nations, until the portal was closed by mighty elven and human magics, and sealed by dwarven antimagic runes. The comet had passed...

Since then, the orcs and dark elves fought each other over their bitter loss, but neither left, establishing themselves in the large island, warring with each other nearly as much as raiding the remaining kingdoms. And now, a century after the Devil War, as it was called, rumors abound of a mad dark elven sorcerer who plans to gain enough power to open the portal again, as the comet approaches...

...how does it look? It's pretty much typical fantasy, I'm allowing humans, elves, half-elves, halflings, gnomes, dwarves, orcs, half-orcs, dark elves... pretty much what I said. Standard fantasy weapons and armor, any fancy stuff will have to be approved.

IMPORTANT: A note on weapons and armor: No superheavy (as in weight) stuff. Fantasy, yes, silliness, no. No oversized swords or anything. A few hints: Broadswords are cut & thrust single-handed close-hilted swords, longswords are light two-handed swords, and if you want a simple knightly sword, either write single-handed sword, knightly sword, or spatha (if it lacks a crossguard).

I like this guy. Any ideas on how you want to start your adventure or should I concoct an introduction of my own?

This reminds me of World of Warcraft!

Probably because it took me 10 minutes to write it- I doubt those goons at Blizzard took more time to write their "scenario".

Have you ever READ their books for that game!?
It may seem simple but it is anything but simple in reality.
Hahahaaa

I think I make mine to complicated...so I never made a roleplay in a guild yet.

Hmmm... surprise me. I'm no good at concocting adventures.

Alrighty then! You shall be the first to start this high and mighty adventure.

Alykia, I know the books might be great, but I'm talking about the game, really. Everything's an excuse to add more content that is just as pointless as before. I hate most MMORPGs, they're a perversion of what a real RPG is. They make oldschool dungeondelving monsterslaying D&D look like classical literature.

Yea, Warcraft Lore is really nice; it's enjoyable at many levels.

I'm not sure why alot of people bash it, since it does have alot to offer in terms of fantasy in ways that Everquest and D&D Lore don't.

By the way, Furijin, and the rest of the people who join *hintnudgeprod* should read the SRPG thread I'll post in the Roleplaying Systems. It's just a few posts, really, of my system translated in English (It was originally Greek).

The comet part also reminds me of FF7 hahahaaa

Well for World of Warcraft...there is a lot of the stories in that are in the books in there...it is complex but the gameplay is simple...maybe a bit too simple. You can easily not get immersed in the deepness of the game if you so chose.

I personally, wish MMORPGs were more...I can't think of the word. I realize what I want is hard to do in the big scheme of things but yea. I want to be able to actually steal from real people when I am a rogue. Hahahaaa

In general, I have fun playing WoW but I am not addicted to it. It isn't that good for me. The only reason I played that one the most is because friends wanted me too and at the time the one I wanted to really play...I couldn't because my computer wouldn't let me. And for me...WoW is free. Hahahaaa

People bash WoW because it seems overrated in a way and it takes peoples lives away. Then again, that could be the case for anythng in life.

Have you seen that DnD MMORPG? The one that is more like playing tabletop DnD. It is suppose to be rather good for a beginner one but I beleive the graphics were lacking.

Many CRPGs follow the trap of fight monsters->get levels & cash->buy skills and more powerful equipment->become more powerful->fight stronger monsters and back and forth again. I think almost all of them. But, some of them have a really great story for the players.

MMORPGs remove the story and add competition with the other players, but that, to me, is stupid. I don't have fun competing with high numbers, I have fun with stories unfolding centered on my character (ever seen that in an MMORPG?) and healthy interaction with other players. Bashing tons and tons of monsters to gain XP like almost all CRPGs and MMORPGs is great.

The greatest idea was in some anime RPG I never played but read about. Your XP was not dependent on how many monsters you had killed, but how far you had progressed down the story. Needless to say it was attacked relentlessly by morons.

As for my "plot", it's full of cliches, because it took me 10 mins biggrin I just wanted it to be a simple fantasy game.

Ok, this SRPG system is cool and pretty easy to understand. Two things, though. You said we'd make our character and then you'd assign us stats. Are those going to be posted here or are you going to post that publicly? Also is magic going to be a basic ability/skill/ranged attack or split up into various abilities/skills?

Frankly, either I or you post a character and then we both modify it. Essentially, you tell me what you want, and I make it work.

Don't worry, I'll be posting your character in a few hours smile

It's intentionally easy, it's just there to help determine freeform outcomes.

Magic's a whole lot of skills you might want, so tell me a few magic spells you'd like to see. It's open to ALL kinds of customization.
