Why is the sun 1AU (3.## lightyears) away from us. Wouldnt that take 3years for the light to travel to us??

it was my understanding that 1 AU = 149597870.691 ± 0.030 km ≈ 92955807 miles, or the approximate distance from Earth to Sun, and 1 light-year ≈ 63,241 AU. anyone currently studying the subject, chime in if this is incorrect.

Yes, 1 is about 93 million miles, the distance between the Earth and Sun, and AU is Astronomical Unit not light year.
1 light year is about 63,000 AU's or 6000000000000 miles.
