I rather like the Necrons, they've got a great and detailed background, and a good theme, but they're lacking in diversity and options. With one troops choice and one HQ not including C'tan, it's hard to find a truly unique army. Lucky for Necron players however, by late 2008/Early 2009, a new codex is planned to be released.

Yeah, they might not have a lot of options but it is very easy to create and paint a really pro army. Dry-brushing is your best friend.

I have always wanted to paint Necrons and a monolith. But, I think I'd like to find a different color from the normal obsidian black, steel and rust colors. Any one know of any different yet plausible Necron color combos ?

Isis47470 I have always wanted to paint Necrons and a monolith. But, I think I'd like to find a different color from the normal obsidian black, steel and rust colors. Any one know of any different yet plausible Necron color combos ? Glue several square bases into a tiny Monolith mock up and experiment with colours to your liking? You could go for a grey marble effect, making the 'Lith look ancient stone. As for the regular Necrons, anything should do, as long as the colours don't clash in a violent way. However, metallics are still best for them, or regular paint with a fair amount of gloss to make them all shiney, because they are metal after all.

Look you can paint your army any which way you want!
The codex has a few good paint jobs in it, but ultimately up to you!
btw there is a picture floating around on the net of a Necron army painted bright pink! with butterflies on the monolith.....
all in all it was wrong in a most profound way!
Anyone have any idea of what might be changed in the new codex?

I found a Fluff flaw in the necron codex. Page 5 point number VI States that Eldanesh was a eldar hero who opposed Khaine, the great war god, in actuality Khaine became jealous of the great hero and killed him because of it. I thought i would point that out. This could have been true because the 2 codex's are different editions. I haven not read the 2nd edition eldar codex or the supplementary Craftworld Eldar Codex.

Would this be the picture you were looking for? Anyway, I always thought an ivory white would work well on Necrons. Aside from that, I think they're just irritating, but that's just me.

I have seen that monolith and when I saw it, I began laughing, it then led to cracking my voice thus making it deeper.
I've tried a few colors on necrons, Ivory, black, an assortment of reds, greens, blues, even yellows and golds, but Ivory doesn't look that great, but it really depends on what colors are under it, I used browns on one to make a dirt in the creases feel to it and grays on another to make to make it look a bit older, both looked decent but nothing that i would continue to do.
