The bone-marked hyena paced, her tail flicking here and there. The total horror of being pregnant, especially by the pack idiot, had finally stopped being so much of a horror. Maybe, just maybe, there'd be females in the litter. Oh, that'd be nice.. Nothing but females... The males were overrunning the pack, it seemed. They needed more girls to show them their place.
A pang made the black and white hyena stop, one eye twitching a bit. Since she'd realised what Mabozi's head-buddy, Mrongo, had done... She'd noticed herself swell up. She'd felt ready to burst with whatever life was in there, especially when it constantly seemed to move. Now... Now it felt like she WAS bursting! Trying not to fall over, she hurried to her den. She wasn't popping all over the bones, especially if there were any females waiting to help keep the pack in line.

It didn't take too long before the pains warranted something that would certainly please Mafa, for it deffinately made her proud - A little female pup, dark as shadows and dark as night.

She shifted, letting out a grunt of discomfort, though she ignored the pains a bit while she meticulously cleaned the pup. There was no sense in NOT grooming her, after all.

The newborn pup thrashed around as she was now exposed to this cold, dusty world. Everything had changed in just a split second. Mere moments ago, she had been warm and comfortable. And now, she'd been evicted into a cruel, cruel place. The pup squeaked and yipped rather loudly, obviously very unpleased with the current series of events. Something large was poking at her, licking at her small, still soaked body. She didn't like it, but after a while, she grew accustomed, and calmed slightly. Whatever it was, it was comforting.
Out in the wasteland of the graveyard, a hyena was on the prowl. It had picked up on the sounds and smells of new life, and was extremely intrigued. At glance, it was only Mabozi, village idiot, and unknown to him, father of these pups, but form a mental standing, the name was Mtundu. Mtundu was a highly intelligent creature, completely aware of everything that was going on with Mabozi and his multiple personalities.
Quietly and slyly, he crept closer to where Schatz was giving birth. He didn't dare venture too close to the female; he was well aware of the wrath. Instead, he stood by silently and respectfully, curious of what was to become of this.

Finished with her meticulous grooming, Schatz finally acknowledged her body's demands to purge herself of another pup. Somehow more painful than the first, it caused her let out pained whoops before it finally entered the world. What greeted her was the sight of a twin to the first pup, identical in nearly every aspect aside from size and... It was male.

Begrudgingly, she groomed her first son clean, though not nearly as meticulously and carefully as her first daughter. She did her best to relax, and her body seemed to do the same. Was it over? She grunted, giving attention to the two pups present. Perhaps it was... She hoped it was.

It seemed Schatz had time to sleep. Indeed, she didn't think she had any more pups. But everything had a way of surprising her, and the pains returned with a vengeance. She got up, pacing about in agitation. As if to taunt her, the pup seemed to squirm in her, before she lay down. Damn that sweet-talker... Damn him to the deepest geyser's bottom... Not nearly as painful as either of the first two, what she hoped was the last pup joined the world. A pale gray, it had her bone marks, but Mabozi's markings as well, all in white. Even the mane and tail were white! She started grooming it, finding it to be... Yet another male.

Part of her pondered if maybe she was cursed to bear only boys, and just the one girl. She watched the pup, ears flicking back. A deeply ingrained instinct told her it had to die now, before he had a chance at life. It wasn't her dislike of males, though... It was something else.
Pure, raw instinct, born into every mammal, that said that a weak offspring was a poor chance at survival. But the bone marks... She couldn't help but admire them. Bones amid the stones, like her own bones amid the shadows. As she looked at the three pups, she secretly decided that she liked them all... She just liked her daughter more. Her nose twitched as she looked up, growling at the scent of the male outside. "If you're going to skulk around, get your a** in here already."

Things were just getting comfortable for him too, sure it was a little cramped but there had been a sense of warmth, security and well, squishiness - and then more space was freed up when one of the bodies next to him was gone, oh glorious. Granted these thoughts never came to mind and he had nothing to compare it to before, but he sure as hell now had something to compare the womb now. Now, it was cold, weird and foreign and his first thoughts being brought into this world were of displeasure.
The dark little male complained as much as his little vocal cords could, which still were rather loud. He was surprisingly less mobile and thrashing-free unlike his sister but shock uncomfortably. His senses only easing and his body ceasing in their trembling when his mother began to wash him. Well, that felt nice and it was beginning to make him feel less sticky after all.

Soon, the young pup could feel that she wasn't alone in this cold, scary world. The warm bodies of her brothers were soon curled up near her, and she took comfort in the fact. She curled up closer to her mother, tightly as she could, feeling safer once she was nestled in tight. A new day had started for the little female.
Mtundu's ears perked as a not too friendly voice beckoned him. Some how, he'd been sure that the female wouldn't have wanted him around, detecting from her tone, and knowing Mrongo, that this hadn't exactly been her idea. He prowled in, keeping his head low in quiet respect. His dark green eyes glanced up to Schatz, and then to her puppies. A smirk was widely evident upon his face, he looked rather proud,
"Well, well..." His eyes dragged away from the puppies to their mother, "We're fathers."

The female hyena tilted her head, eyeing the male. "And which one are you?" Deffinately not Mabozi... How many head buddies did he have, exactly? She had no idea, but she DID realise... Other than Mabozi, maybe they were all aware what the others were doing.
Last into the world, the little gray pup hadn't really squeeled much at all. In fact, if he hadn't squirmed a bit in displeasure at being licked, or his sides hadn't moved with his breathing once his nose and mouth were uncovered, he would have passed for stillborn. Gray paws stretched out before he was moved to his brother and sister. Comfort was sought, in some form, from their presence, and though he didn't know it, he should have been thankful for his life being spared a swift ending due to his apparent weakness.

Mtundu quirked a brow at the female, tilting his head slightly. Well, good, at least she knew that there was more than one of them in the empty space that was Mabozi's head. With a curt nod of his head, he spoke, his tone smooth and intellectual,
""My name is Mtundu, it's a pleasure to meet you in person... Or in mind, which ever you prefer. You're Schatz, from what I hear... Yes?"
The huge male smiled politely, treading carefully to not upset her. She'd just bore her pups who knew how hormonal she was at the moment. He'd already dealt with his mother with newborns around, and it wasn't something pleasant. He scooted closer, trying to get a better view of the pups, which to him were now just black and gray blobs. With a swift motion, he gestured to them with a paw,
"I'm sorry Mrongo got to you, Schatz. So what's the damage?"

She let out a snort, deciding she already liked Mtundu. He was smarter than Mrongo by a few bounds and Mabozi... By an entire mountain. "Whatever..." She looked at the pups, having to tilt her head just right to see with her one eye. "Two boys and a girl..." She motioned to the smaller of the two darker pups, quite proud. "If he did anything right... There's the girl." And next to her, her twin... She still remembered that pain, and would likely remember it for a long time. She still had the urge to snap the gray one's neck and eat it, though. Oh was she going to hold THAT over his head...

Mtundu, seeing that she was more comfortable with his presence now, slid over closer, till he sat about a foot away from Schatz and the pups. He looked down at them warmly, a smile on his face. Two boys and a girl, charming. A daughter and two sons, it was a lovely thought! It was rather disheartening to the male that he wouldn't be out and about to see them grow and develop, wouldn't be around to fill their spongey heads with knowledge. No, it'd be Mabozi, that dolt, he didn't even know he was a father, and probably wouldn't even grasped the concept if confronted with it.
"Lovely, positively radiant. Have you named them?"

"Not yet..." She looked at the pups, ears flicking. After a moment, she ran her tongue over her one daughter. "Though Micah would be a good one for this one... And Baal for her twin..." She eyed the other one. He was a surprise, a secret her body had withheld. Her one eye watched him as he fought for his place at her belly, a frown coming to her face. "Raziel, the little secret keeper he seems to be..."

Mtundu nodded calmly, his eyes narrowed slightly in a cool gaze. The pups were eager for their first meal. It was inspiring to the male to see such brand new beings with such fight and will power, right off the bat. Though he wasn't surprised, these pups did hold rather surperior genetics.
"Micah, Baal, Raziel..."
Elegant names, they were suiting. The male smiled affectionately, taking his gaze from the pups back up to her mother. She was tired and exhausted, it was plain as day. However, he wasn't yet about to leave her in peace.
"Secret keeper, huh? On either note, have you told my mother of this... incedent?"

The half-blind hyena's ears went back as she suddenly looked away, focusing on the distant sight of a geyser. "Not yet... Though I'll start with Micah." After all, what would make the alpha happier about the fact her oldest son had sired a litter than the fact he'd sired a female?
She looked back at the male, frowning a bit. "I must know, though... Just how many of you are there, in Mabozi's head?" Mtundu, Mrongo... Mabozi... Who else was there, and what were they all like? "One of you needs to take permanent hold on that body before he kills himself by falling in a geyser or something."

Mtundu nodded wisely. Yes, his mother surely would be shocked right to death with the thought of Mabozi impregnating one of her favorite females in the pack. Surely, Mafa would have wanted to seek out a better mate. But alas, what better genetics in these pups that those of her own? His mother was a firm believer in elite genetics, and well, they didn't come more elite than her own. With a light smile, he looked to Schatz,
"That would be a good way to start. I'm sure she'll understand, at least some what. She knows about us all."
The large male's ears pressed back as she posed this question. So she'd met him, and she'd obviously met Mrongo. Looks like Mwuaji hadn't yet shown his ugly snout.
"Three. Mrongo, Mwuaji, and myself. Though let me offer advice, you ever see Mwuaji prowling about, you take those pups, you gather yourself, and you run."
Mtundu looked sternly to the young female before him. He had a feeling that their mother was the only one who had reigns on that killer. Mwuaji's only goal in life was to shed blood; he didn't care who's.
