How do you feel about Dumbledore being gay?
  I always knew it!
There's going to be so much dumb fan-fiction now.
I'm glad that she put a gay character in the HP world.
She should have mentioned it in the books and gone farther. Dumbledore should have been more open.
How could they leave him around the children???
  I'm so dissapointed. That's disgusting.
  Meh. It doesn't really matter.

Okay, I figured there had to be some other people as anxious to discuss this as I am.
Here is a link to part of the interview
So, apparently Dumbledore was in love with Gelert Grindelwald! Exciting. I'm sort of dense and didn't exactly pick up on that one, but I did always get the feeling that Dumbledore didn't really like women.
I think it's great, especially the nonchalant way she announced it. It's not like she was hiding it, but she wasn't making a huge deal about it like she'd done the most ballsy thing in the history of the universe. Also, choosing Dumbledore to be gay was pretty much one of the only characters she could have picked and not gotten flak for it. (I mean, I know that she didn't just choose this, she obviously knew it for a long time.) OMG GUYS GUESS WHAT VOLDEMORT'S GAY! Yeah. That one would have been a very bad move. And Dumbledore has always dressed very flamboyantly. Obviously not everyone wears bright colors like that in HP. xd Overall, I'm pretty much just fine with that.

Neville married Hannah Abbott? I dunno, I'm glad he married someone and continues to be a total bamf, but Hannah Abbott?

At least Luna married Newt Scamander's grandson. I'M SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT ONE.

All Harry's parents were only full-time fighters? SNORES-VILLE. But it does explain why the rest of the world didn't think it was fishy that Voldemort was so dead-set on getting rid of them without knowing about the prophesy.

LOL about Draco and Aberforth. Yay Molly too. Molly is so awesome.

Discuss:
How do you feel about JKR waiting to talk about all of this until after the books are out? Do you wish it had been included?
What were your favorite/least favorite revelations?
How do you feel about the statement that Dumbledore is gay? Do you think this is brave of JKR, or do you wish she had gone further?

I didn't pick up on the fact that Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald. However, i did notice the flashy colors. In the books he always seems to have that "chipper" attitude.

I was so excited when I read that Neville was a professor!!!! I wouldn't have thought he would be the one to make it as a professor but he really stepped up to the plate in the 7th book! I love how he ran towards Voldemort and slashed of Nagini's head! That was AWSOME!

"How could they leave him around the children???"

Okay, I feel the need to clarify that poll option. I saw some people with really negative attitudes saying that (somewhere on the internet? I don't remember.) Apparently, just because he's gay people seem to think that also makes him a *****. rolleyes

There are all kinds of love of the spectrum, and ***** can be heterosexual or homosexual, male or female. That doesn't make it any less wrong. Don't get confused. Most gay people DON'T have an attraction to children. That probably includes Dumbledore.

Yeah, I always found that opinion that just because someone is attracted to the same sex that they are suddenly some kind of rapist or *****. It's really bizarre. You see people go, "You're gay! Get away from me! Don't touch me!" It's really random. I mean, I don't see a guy and go, "OMG! Attracted to girls! Get away from me! You are attracted to my sex!", even though it's much more likely that I'd be sexually assaulted by a man instead of a woman o.O Random, I say! Additionally, I was watching the Discovery Crime channel and apparently, not only are most ***** assaults done by 'non-*****' (as in, a 1-off or 1-person thing rather than always looking for children), but many of the assaults of the same sex are done by 'non-gay' (as in, prefers the adult company of the opposite sex) people. HMMM.

As for on topic, thanks for the link. I've read a ton of summaries but no actual transcripts, so thanks for that xd Dumbledore being gay? Didn't surprise me - the robes people! My sister (who is, admittedly, a slasher) was like, "I KNEW IT!" at the top of her lungs when I told her sweatdrop She said that she knew there was something between Dumbledore and Grindelwald but thought it was her normal slasher self reading into things that weren't there. Hehehe. And Snape heart Good for his painting - I knew he was innocent I tells ya!

Some people are going to say 'cover the children's ears!'
Others are gonna say 'OMFG Let's kiss Dumbledore!'
But you're right, the way JKR said it was really good, all casual and whatnot.
Though I was certain there was something going on with McGonigal and him... But Dumbledore was eighty years older than her...
And it does bother me that people are disscusing "THE New Veiw on the Harry/Dumbledore Relationship." That's just plain sick.

One question- Do you think Harry knew Dumbledore was gay?

I think she could have at least mentioned it in the book, I mean in 7 years it would have been mentioned at least once and Rita Skeeter definitely would have made a big deal of it in her book even if JKR didn't think it was a big deal. I don't think it really matters what gender he preferred, especially since he didn't have any love affairs during the storyline, but it's just not believable that it wouldn't have been mentioned at all, not even as an insult hurled at him or something.

I honestly believe that Dumbledore had no sinister motives in his relationship with Harry. He loved Harry like a son, and since we've seen that he probably would have never had a son otherwise, it makes the relationship even sweeter. I don't think Harry had any clue. He's sort of... dense. And again, if he did, wouldn't it be mentioned in the book? Perhaps because Harry did not notice (or because it made no difference to him) it wasn't observed. And I really don't think it would have changed Harry's opinion of him. After all, Harry has shown great respect for "inferior" species, so why wouldn't he also treat a gay person the same way he would anyone else?

I was a little suspicious when Dumbledore was so obsessed with Grindlewald, but I am glad that she didn't mention it outright in the book. It allows the readers to think of him however they want, or remember the interview or not. I don't think that Harry had a clue that he was gay, Harry is a touch thick after all. I was mad that Neville married Hannah Abbot, I wanted better for him... Meaning me or Luna.

How do you feel about JKR waiting to talk about all of this until after the books are out? Do you wish it had been included? I'm happy that it wasn't in the books. I don't like the fact that Dumbledore was gay, and I think it's disgusting, but least there wasn't any details.
What were your favorite/least favorite revelations? I liked that Neville married Hannah Abbott and taught Herbology. Go Neville!
How do you feel about the statement that Dumbledore is gay? Do you think this is brave of JKR, or do you wish she had gone further? I think it was brave and not brave of her. I know that sounds wierd, and there are so many Homophibics out there, but there are also a lot of Pro-Homosexuals. Again, I'm glad she did not put it in the books.

I think it makes sense that she didn't put it in the books- I really don't see it fitting anywhere. Even when we learn about Grindelwald, I think it's better that we are left to think what we want about it. That said, I'm very, very glad that she told us about it. ^.^ It makes me happy that there's a gay character in her books- especially since they're so popular. I've always been somewhat disappointed that GLBT characters hardly get mentioned in 'children's' literature. I think that maybe if they were, then that would help combat homophobia better than any stern lecture could. Because I believe that when something becomes mainstream, is mentioned like 'no big deal', that's when it becomes 'acceptable' and 'ok' to most people.

I could care less if Dumbledore was gay or not. I think it's pretty cool that he is.
I really wanted Neville to marry Luna, but Hannah is good too I guess.
Go Harry's family!
The part where Molly kills Bellatrix is still one of my favorite parts in the book. XDDDD

and why isn't he gay?

I really don't care. If he is I would have hoped she put more about it in the book.
When I first heard that I started laughing. It's awesome she just put it out there like that.
I'm catholic and I still love you J.K. !!!
<3
And I love Harry Potter.
People think gay and magic and they run for the hills.

But Harry Potter is about the good in the world. (atleast for me)
I don't think God punishes you for loving someone. No matter who that person is.
To me magic is everywhere.
Look at the whole point of the book. The greatest magic is love.

I think that's even truer in real life.
So... YAY DUMBLEDORE!!!
