I typicaly look at the story before I judge things, but I've noticed that most of the RPs with the title of "Romance" are all about mushy "lovey dovey" crap and almost no existant story. I could go on and give examples but I would probably get bitched at if I started linking all sorts of stuff cause I tend to take it overboard

Olny in real life, if it's fake then I don't care for it.
As a result I don't care for the majority of 'romance' type stuff

I'm not ENTIRELY against romance role plays, but any role play made just for the sake of romance is a no-no. Usually because it's just a bunch of sitting in trees and wandering around and taking fleeting glances at people as you pass by them until one brief romance scene where suddenly everyone is blushing left and right until finally "Joe kisses Suzie-Q and she turns even redder. Suzie-Q kisses Joe back and whispers 'I love u, Joe...lyk omgz, where has you been all my lyf...'" (the chatspeak WAS necessary) etc, etc. And then it dies in a week because everyone's bored of it and already joined 3 more romance role plays with the exact same story to them and the exact same characters with different appearance pictures and names.
However, if it's something structured, like an arranged marriage thing, or one of those, "He likes her, but He doesn't know She's had a fling with Him at His birthday party..." ones. That being because either you're already GIVEN a target, and you're welcome to twist things up. Like, in arranged ones, you can fall for the wrong person, and in the scenario ones you already have trouble, and it's easy to make it a whollle lot worse.
I guess, in a nutshell, I don't like them because they don't have any plot, they all sound the same, and there's nothing to do.

Cute.
I ain't a guy, but I don't really like Romance RPs either. I guess just 'cause... well, what Meareign said, they're plotless, they're pointless, and they're all exactly the freakin' same. It gets tedious sometimes. I am very judgmental by what the RP has to offer before I've even though about joining. And if the title has the world "romance" in it, I generally ignore it.
It's just so completely typical, something we see in books, movies, programs, and probably just everyday life, so many times. It seems really shallow to just go by this "let's kiss" ideal that everyone seems to love. It really ain't that great. Sometimes, more in-depth romance is okay, because if there's an actual plotline, and certain characters along the way grow on each other and then fall in love, that's acceptable. But I really, really hate the high school crushes, or the prince/princess fantasy type thing. It just doesn't cut it for me.
But, I don't know. Maybe it's 'cause the people who start the romance RPs and play them are usually all n00bs. rolleyes

Yeah...Romance is a device, not an end-all. And from what I've seen, most of said RPs are written and participated by kids who really just don't get it.
It falls under my maxim of "do not play what you do not know." Watching/reading varying media on any given subject really doesn't cut it, particularly in the case of human relations. Not to say that my penchant for playing criminal characters must mean I have real-world experience, but it took a long time to get where I can comfortably execute those personalities.
