OOC: as always, in the olden days. i hate today's world where chivalry, honesty, and honor mean nothing. I always feel like i was either born inthe wrong story, or time. And why don't we make it your village? If it's not too painful or something. But I'd love to at least pretend as if we...grew up? together. somethin like that. so, you know what the place looks like, you know how things worked back then, so, yeah.

ooc: I rarely did. Most wore dresses, but since I had to work with my brothers, I usually wore pants. It wasn't exactly looked fondly upon, but what other choice did I have, ya know?
Remember, I grew up in the Middle Ages. So think of something you would see at a Reniscance festival. That'd prolly be about right.))

Lena was gathering some herbs for dinner, but her skirt kept getting tangled in the brush. Annoyed, she glanced around to make sure no one was near. I think I'm far enough away from the village...She gathered the skirt and tied it up around her waist. Now her legs were bare to just above her knees. Lena never wore boots. She had a long-standing arguement with her father and brothers about some animal being on her feet. She'd comply with the skirt, but that's where it stopped. She had jaw-length sun-streaked brown hair that was usually partly up but kept coming down.

Hireadd gathered the laundry she'd been doing in the river. Her brothers' clothing had been particularly hard to wash this week, but with some help from a handful of rocks, she'd been able to get the dirt out.
She tossed them out on the grass to dry in the sun and sat down on the bank, letting her sore feet soak in the river's cool water. She held her hands up above her head, looking at the sun through her water-shriveled fingertips.

Done with collecting her herbs, Lena untied her skirt and went to the river to soak and prepare them for dinner. Noticing that Hireadd was there, she went slightly downriver of her and kneeled down there.
"Hello, there! How's the laundry coming?" She took out a few bundles and laid them in a small pool. She took one of the large rocks Hireadd had been using and began pounding the plants into fibers and paste.

"Finally finished," Hireadd called. "I often wonder how those boys get so dirty so fast." She grinned, letting her hand come back down. She leaned back, resting on her elbows. What to prepare for dinner? she thought absentmindedly. She didn't get much of a chance to think though, as her faithful friend, a black crow she'd called Ennin landed next to her.
"Well hello there," she smiled. "Find anything decent to do today? I hope you didn't pester that poor old widow again," she scolded. The crow ruffled his feathers in indignation and Hireadd laughed. "Alright alright, I'll take your word for it this time."

After a while, Lena was done. She wrapped her fibers and paste in some of the large leaves and went to sit by Hireadd. "How much longer you "thing you'll be? Oh, and do you know if the boys got something for dinner?

Hireadd scratched Enninn's neck, ruffling his feathers further. "Just waiting for laundry to dry," she said, glancing over at the clothes and her brothers' underwear out for all to see. "I'm sure Zexsumei has something, but Verx refuses to eat anything Older Brother brings from the barracks." She shrugged. "I'm sure we'll find something."
They were orphans, not invalids. Hireadd never outright refused the help of the villagers, but she didn't invite it either. She and her brothers were completely capable of caring for themselves, even though she was still considered a child and Verx never really did anything for them other than musical entertainment at dinner.

Lena was just a child whose father had died in the war, her mother not long after. She had nowhere else, and no one would take her in. Hireadd had brought her home and she had lived with them ever since. She didn't take up much space and she alwasy did he share of work.
