The leaves were turning, decadent veils of firey color that garbed the trees, falling one by one as the woodlands slowly shed their summer garments and readied for winter. It was the first time Paradise had ever seen it. She'd been born in the warmer weather, her brightly colored pelt a mimicry of the bright flowers that liked to bloom during the summer months. She looked out of place amid the browns and reds and dark golds, even the orange of her ears and tails too bright to line up with the dry leaves that crackled underfoot. And there was a decided chill in the air; the time for snows had not yet come, but old man Winter was definitely reminding everyone of his presence today.

Paradise couldn't help a shiver as a gust of wind blew through her fur. She was used to warm weather, after all, and her winter coat hadn't grown in yet. She crept into a small hollow space between a tree trunk and a bushy little evergreen that stood next to it, the small tree as out of place this far from the Mountain as she looked amid the alternately dark and fiery foliage. She tucked her paws under her and wrapped her tails around her sides, deciding she'd take a moment to warm up before she went back to her wandering examination. She'd need to find somewhere to stay over the winter... hrm...

User ImageThe dark Nitemare's paws dragged heavily across the soft grounds. Her snake-like tongue flickered against the cool air, tasting the air surrounding her. As she moved on, claw marks were visibly seen on the soft mud. Of all kinds of footing, this was one of those she hated most. Soft mud. It didn't echo as well, diluting the feeling she would normally get in her paws when she stepped on hard grounds. This was a sign winter was coming yet again. Winter was always cold with soft, squishy ground from all that constant precipitation.

Even though the floors were harder to walk in, Winter was still her favorite season of all. All those cowards and their stupid little companions often bundled up in the company of one another, leaving the outside usually deserted throughout the day. It wasn't just because of that reason she liked the winter, but also because darkness fell sooner and stayed sooner. They were exposed to parts of her world--a world without any sort of light. Sometimes they would even feel depressed over the lack of warmth. Of course, all these feelings just made Lilith all the more happier. She preyed on everyone else's suffering after all.

With the approach of even more hibernating trees, her tongue flickered with slight curiosity. There was a peculiar...rather...foul taste about the air. It seemed rather familiar...but also not at the same time. It certainly wasn't as foul as those merry-go-lucky Angelics, but it was almost just as foul. It had a bitter, sour taste to it...almost like tasting trash from two weeks ago. She could only make an educated guess for now, but she drew it down to those despicable normals. Only they would taste sour in this sense.

Paradise had done a lot of traveling on her own since she grew to adulthood, so staying altert for unusual sounds was second nature to her by now. Her ear flicked slightly as a soft sound like muffled footsteps. She opened her eyes from her contemplation and looked around, taking only a moment to spy Lilith down the path.

...What. The. Hell? She'd never seen a Nightmare before, though sure she'd heard descriptions of them. Was this one of them, then? Though she probably ought to be more concerned with whether or not it was one of the violent sorts. She remained quiet for the moment, not certain if sounding out would be the best of ideas.

Her tongue continued to taste the scent of the normal. Such a foul, foul taste. The Nitemare sharply jerked her head towards the silent normal. Even though her eyes were stitched closed, it seemed as if her eyes were gazing directly at Paradise.

How interesting that it hid from her, or rather, how typical of her to hide from her. The indigo mass continued to remain silent for a little while, paying as close attention to the details she can grasp as possible. The normals scent was unfamiliar, so Lilith had little material to work off of. None the less, she would find some way to poke into the poor thing.

"It is finally the season where even you and your foul kind are similar to us. How does it feel to have your sight robbed from you similar to my kinds? Or does it not matter at all because your kind secretly enjoys the darkness because it holds curious wonders?" She whispered. Her tone was full of acid and malice, as if she were spitting poison straight at Paradise.

If Lilith thought that Paradise was afraid... she was sorely mistaken. The brightly colored femme was simply cautious; she could not in conscious memory think of a time she'd actually been afraid.

"Foul, am I? Hmm. Never been called that one before." She stretched and sat up, curling her tails around her paws. She peered at the Nightmare curiously, tilting her head slightly before asking, "So you are a Nightmare Kitsusagi, then?"

Robbed of sight? Enjoying the darkness? Angry one, this. "I travel by night or day. I wanted to learn the use of all my senses. I've seen more than one person that was robbed of one and didn't know how to cope." Shrug. "And I've encountered curious wonders by night or by day. Yourself, for instance." At least, that was her perspective. This first encounter with a Nightmare would remain a curious wonder whether it went well or ill in her mind.

How most intriguing...This one wasn't on a total defense, offense or on the verge of absolute fear. She enjoyed challenges. They were harder to break, but they were the more amusing ones. When they broke, they broke so much harder. In fact, they often struggle getting out of that pathetic hole they dug themselves into. Those feelings amused her so. Ah, time was of the essence. She must remain patient to break the harder ones.

A roaring laughter rumbled out her throat. Learn to use all senses? That was the most bull crap she'd ever heard. Even if she learned all her senses, then what? She would merely turn into a jack-of-all-trades but master of nothing. And unlike Lilith herself, Paradise could so choose when she wanted to see. Even in the darkness with a little bit of light her eyes would adjust. Lilith's, however, will never do the same. They may see light in the darkness, but just light in darkness is just about the same as seeing nothing at all.

"That was an interesting response. A response I never thought a normal would say. Or would all normals think the same way? The night is a frightening place, yes...most certainly, especially to the young because of their stupidity and ignorance. However, you have never experienced total darkness from birth until now. You will never truly understand what the darkness feels like because of your ability to see. And it is exactly your kind that should suffer the curse, not us. Those who do not blame others are merely in denial for they are weak willed and easily swayed by your kinds influence. It spreads easily...like a plague. A plague of death."

Paradise snorted softly. "Would all normals think the same way? I doubt it. A lot of the ones I've met have their heads so full of fluff they wouldn't notice if they were about to walk off a cliff."

The rest of Lilith's little rant gave her pause for thought. "Our kind should suffer? But then we would be you and you would be us and the circle would simply keep repeating. And in truth "my kind" have no more to do with what happened back then than those of "your kind" around today. We can blame others and our ancestors and the gods but in the end all we'd be doing is rationalizing our anger and self-loathing."

That last bit made her grin. "And... don't get me wrong, I'm not fond of the idea of dying, but... death is just another part of life. If there's a plague... there's a reason for it. The reason may be a stupid one, but still a reason."

Her skinless maw curled into a slight grin in response to the clever little normal. But no matter how smart the normal was, she was still a normal. What they were could not change. She brought up good points, but that had no affect on Lilith at all. She realized what she was doing from the start. She knew she was feeding off her self-loathing, her hatred and her anger. But that was what made things fun. If she was as happy-go-lucky as everyone else she wouldn't be the way she was today.

The tongue flickered again as though reflecting her thoughts, "Everything happens for a reason, yes. But some things should not happen at all, for example, our curse. Or do they just happen at random? Things sway too easily, just like the spreading plague.

If death is just another part of life, why do you fear it? Because of the unknown it brings? Death is darkness, it is ever lasting and never ending. I am sure a creature even of such low intelligence such as your kind, you can imagine such an event. Imagine the death of your eyes. What do you see? Nothing. Death is nothingness. What is there to fear about nothingness?"

Paradise tilted her head and then nodded. "Perhaps it shouldn't have happened. If the gods didn't want your people starting that war up again I'm sure there are better ways it could have been done. Most stories about gods, though... well, they're all a bunch of freaking drama queens." She grinned to herself. "And Fate is fickle, and the world in general doesn't give a crap as long as balance is restored, whether that be before or after we all kill eachother."

Her ears pricked forward when Lilith spoke about death. Fear?... Maybe a little, but also not. "If I fear death it's because I'm young and I'm not ready to give up life yet. But I also that when my time's up, my time's up, and I won't have any say in the matter. If I wind up losing my eyes or something later... well... I doubt I'll like it. I guess I figure I'll just enjoy what I've got while I have it." She placed a claw in a c***k in the treebark next to her and picked at it. "As for death being nothingness... can anyone say for sure what death is? If there's nothing, or something, or if we'd even be aware of either circumstance after it happens? Death is the ultimate change, the great Unknown. And no one escapes it, no matter how we whine and struggle or what we believe or who we hate or how rich or powerful or none of the above we happen to be." She paused. "What about you? What would you do if you were faced with death?"

The Nitemare flickered her tongue once more, contemplating her reply. Such an interesting little specimen. At least it had a brain, more so than some of the other normals did. "Fate is like the moon. O Fortune, O Fortune. Velvut Luna," she whispered, " The world just does not care in general. If it is in balance or out of balance, either it cares for not. Like the hand of fate, it leaves you and deserts you the second you are brought into this world. Whatever happens to you is your own business unless you make it otherwise. Or is it just that it cares to let you loose on your own rather than hold your hand through everything? Is it the seemingly cold parent who leaves you be? Or just the cold parent who cares not?"

She couldn't help but chuckle at the last part. What was there to do about death? What could one do about it in the face of it? One can only raise up to meet it, but not challenge it. Those who challenge death are foolish little beings who wish for death. "Death is nothingness and everything at the same time. It is all and nothing. The alpha and the omega, if you will. Death cares not who you are, it treats all equally.

I will accept death if I come to face it. There is not much one can do with death. You can only delay the inevitable for so long. Death will eventually come to collect us all, some sooner then others, but not for long. Those who do not accept it are merely fearing the unknown it brings, nothing more."

Paradise almost started chuckling. "True; maybe the world doesn't give a crap. Maybe it does. Either way I suppose that balance simply reasserts itself when all is said and done, in whatever fashion it finds."

It was refreshing to have an intelligent conversation with... anyone, really. Though somehow she doubted that the Nightmare was thinking quite so charitably of her.

"Life is a poor thing, for those who live in fear. Especially of life's inevitable end." She shrugged. "Caution is fine... but for those I've seen where caution crosses the border into paranoia... they're too afraid of everything to live. Seems like a waste."

She stood, and stretched, and padded from her cozy hollow back onto the path. "Would you care to exchange names or shall we part ways none the wiser?" Paradise was getting the itch to move again; as intriguing as this all had been, she didn't feel like staying much longer.

Her tails flicked just once in slight curiosity. This normal was rather intelligent. A cute little one, she must say. At least it had a better personality than the rest of her kind as far as the Nitemare knew. For once, she found herself agreeable to someone else's views. Maybe because their views shared common ground that the normal sparked an interest within her. Or maybe because she subtly wanted to break the kitsu more so than the others.

"Lilith," She replied shortly, "To screech is its meaning," She grinned slightly.

Paradise herself wasn't sure what to make of the Nightmare; Lilith wasn't a "nice one", no. But Lilith also had more... class? Style? She wasn't base enough to attack everyone she wasn't fond of. But ah... the way Lilith asked some of those questions, as if seeking a c***k in the armor of Paradise's life views... Maybe it was a little masochistic but Paradise hoped she might encounter the Nightmare again in the future just to see if there was a c***k in the armor to find.

The smaller femme grinned in return at Lilith's description of her name's meaning. "Paradise. Something that can't possibly exist because no two people have the same idea of perfect. Though I'm actually named after a flower." She paused for a moment. "It was... interesting to meet you, Lilith. I'll be going now. Maybe we'll run into eachother again."
