Eheh.. I was working yesterday and got my shins hit pretty damn hard when I was working and they still hurt like hell even though the doctor said the bone wasnt even bruised. Any good suggestions to make it stop hurting? Asprin has already been tried.
As for my overall health though, I am not the healthiest person in the world. I am overweight, and Ill try exercising but I just cant quite get the will power to continue exercising. Well it is a bit distressing. One of the things im getting ready to try is to take a week of fasting. (I think thats the right spelling.) Then afterwards I want to try to get in the mind set of exercising. As it stands though my eating diet as is, well its pretty bad. I know I dont eat enough vegetables and cant seem to quite acquire a taste for anything but salad and carrots. I need as much advice as I can get. Heck if you found something like a set of foods to eat that would be great. Also I do tend to prefer asian style foods. Particurly Vietnamese, if you know a good place to look for diets or help me make one that is in that lines that would be great. Or if you have a different idea let me know. Thanks. Also any good excercise routines that have helped you before if you wouldnt mind terribly could you let me know them so I can try it?
Also for the exercising thing, I used to be in martial arts because thats one thing that I know I could get into, so if you are or were in it and remember how to do it. Could you let me know and Ill give it a shot?

Ouch, I hate bruised shins. Unless you have a supply of herbs handy I don't think there's much I can recommend to you as far as that. I usually ice them. If you don't have any ice packs a bag of frozen veggies or fruit or something would work, or just some ice cubes in a wash cloth. It might help numb it a little.
As far as dieting goes I have a hard time eating healthy myself, though I've been getting better at it now that I'm home all of the time. I know that for breakfast I like to have a huge glass of milk with one of those carnation instant breakfasts and some yogurt and fruit and like a muffin or waffle and I think that's pretty healthy and tasty. I know you said you were into Korean cooking but I think it's similar, somewhat, to Japanese. There are a lot of Japanese diets that you might be able to find online that are really good for you and low in fat. If you like sushi that's REALLY good for you and stir fried vegetables too. When you cook in oils make sure to always use olive oil. Olive oil is actually good for you.
For exercise.... I'm pretty lazy myself, although at the moment I guess being pregnant might excuse me, since I'm not ballooning out. When I was in the Marines they had us do a lot of running. It can be pretty boring and sucky sometimes but it is really good exercise. Personally, I like hiking. If you have places to go hiking I'd try doing that once a week or something for exercise, or riding a bike. I know in Arizona hiking is so nice, and in Maine there are some cool places too. You hike out to the top of a mountain or something and you sit up there and admire the view and bring along a drawing or writing notebook... It's not only good excersize it's also relaxing. whee

Tae Kwon Do, here. *raises hand* And for your shins, ice is your friend. If you're looking for an herbal remedy, use comfrey- its other name is bone-set and it's good for deep bruising.

If you're not embarrassed (I always think I look silly) you could get one of those martial arts workout videos.

Chris Silverwind I think everyone thinks they look silly ^ ^ though Kyoki if you could write out the moves and describe them pretty well Ill give Tae Kwon Do a try ^ ^ O_O Uhm? I'm no teacher. Besides, martial arts are something you should learn from an instructor. I'd go with a tape, if I were you. I mean, I could, but it'd be full of things like "Start with your feet shoulder width apart and your hands in loose fists about crotch level. First move, turn right, step forward, so your right leg is bent almost 45 degrees..." which is simple to understand, hard to do, and that's not even all of the entire first move, and I'm not interested in writing out all that, since there's 19 moves in the first form. Unless you know the lingo and the basic moves, it's too hard to explain without showing you. Hit up a school for lessons, find a person you know who knows something, explore books and tapes.

The tapes dont teach well... >> If you find an oldschool teacher, you can probably get lessons for cheap plus labor- helping keep things clean. My old teacher would give a lesson a week for mirror washing, and two lessons a week for floor sweeping. You could get a lesson a day, five days a week, if you offered to clean the dojo.

I've done 11 years of martial arts. You can't learn them from online, or any written form without picutures and someone to actually guide you. Sorry. sad
But you can get a video, and a frined. Doing it with a friend, at a set time each day/week helps you to make sure to actually do it, no matter WHAT excercise it is. And also, having a frinend there means that you can correct eachother when you're doing stuff wrong. It's hard to see what's wrong with yourself, and even black belts need someone to say "hey...try this" or "your hand wasn't in quite the right spot."
Best of luck.

It also means you can go "*snrk* You look so stupid!" And then you get into great wrestling matches which are fun and healthy exercise! XD *learned belly-dancing with a friend*

I'm actually trying to talk my roommate into learning belly danceing with me, from a video, since there's nowhere near by to learn.
If you do end up taking a martial arts class, try to recruit a frined, so you can "race" eachother through the ranks, and practice together. There's LOTS of partner stuff to do in martial arts, and it's good to have someone your same rank and that you're comfortable with. About the same size is a good thing too, but not a must.

Could you let me know and Ill give it a shot? You likie asian foods eh? Be careful on what you get. Moo goo gai pan isn't too bad in that category. Sushi is good there too, but be careful of tempura and fried things; those with just clog up your arteries. Brown rice is better than brown rice in your situation, but make sure it isn't fried. As for snaking, all I can say is that popcorn and pretels are good, because they have hardly have any fat, calories, or sugars ( the BAD carbs) For the popcorn, low fat or no butter, and if you have problems with salt, skip the pretzles. EAT YOUR GREENS!!!! If you don't, you'll get buut cancer ( I'm not kidding ). For the leg, try a splint or ice. If that doesn't work, you might need to see the doctor. By the way, swimming is very healthy if done in the lap lane or vigorously and hardly non-stop unless you get tired, plus you are less likely to get injured by equiptment by swimming.

For pain, ice is great for inflamed tissues and heat for tense muscles. It's sometimes hard to tell which you have, but I'd guess ice for your shins. You could also try a menthol rub. It feels nice but smells kinda odd...
