Welcome to the Land Beyond.
This world is much like that of Earth. It's geography is almost identical, though out of the corner of one's eye, there is often a twisting and a flash of something that should not be there (an ocean in the middle of the forest, a desert scene beside a lake). For the sake of sanity, the main country will mimic the U.S.
(There will be a list of cities [main ones] in one of the succeeding posts, as well information about them-- perhaps even maps in the future. )
The technology is only slightly behind that of the Earth because in recent times there has been a bit of a depression. Things are typically better out in the country than in the cities. Farms are fairly prosperous depending upon size. The upper class is made up of politicians, larger-scale farmers, and merchants/businessmen.
One common theme is that on top of many houses and various buildings there is a strange metal rooster that is usually still-- except for when the Wind blows.
This is no ordinary wind. From whence it rises, no one knows. It just causes everything to stir. There is no 'direction' to it and it is neither cold nor warm. But it causes strangeness to arise. In winter, icicles will dance from trees like fairies in a storybook. Flights of butterflies will come together to form giant faces that whisper eerie secrets-- or, rather, nonsense. Some trees gains eyes all over their forms. Even some of the people will change, speaking in tongues or growing extra tongues. Some gain animalistic features, but most don't change much.
Normally, only one in five people has anything obviously 'different' about them. Nature is almost normal, with a few oddities here and there. Like rabbits with forked tongues. Sometimes, the grass seems like little fingers dancing over the ground. But this is all just part of the Land Beyond.
