So it seems like in the last couple of years, Cowboy Bebop has become the proverbial poster-child for all anime. It seems like any anime-buff worth his salt has seen this entire series, and the vast majority of said buffs have a great deal of respect for it. Some even go so far as to say that it is the Greatest Anime of All Time.
I personally wouldn't go that far (Trigun holds that very special spot on my list) but I certainly think that it's popularity is well-deserved. What do you guys think?

Consider this, the only place you'll get Bebop other then Bebop is in movies. There still hasn't been an anime like Bebop. The ones that tried have simply become rip offs.

However of all anime it does have the best soundtrack. I'll agree with GAoAT award if it'll piss off Eva fans that vastly over rate that steaming pile of director mental breakdowns.

Personally, there are better series but for what it did Bebop was great.

I wanna find something I've wanted all along....

3nodding It's popularity is well deserved but I also wouldn't go as far as to say it is the greatest anime of all time. I also agree with the Trigun thing wink Though Death Note(though I read the Manga, I mean as a series, not Anime in itself) is really really really close to sharing the spot for me sweatdrop It's hard to decide

....Somewhere I belong

*sigh*... It was alright. It entertained me. Just what it's purpose was.

Bebop, Trigun, and FMA are my top favorites.

Great anime. 3nodding

Edit: The Tenchi series is also classic. <3333

Seeing as it ripped off a great deal from Lupin III, I'm going to say no. talk2hand Lupin >>> Cowboy Bebop.

It's interesting that you say that because the creators of Cowboy Bebop made it to be an homage to Lupin III. They purposely used similar characters and themes because they were fans of Lupin, and just infused a unique style. If you like Lupin III, you should like Cowboy Bebop.

But I don't. surprised If I want Lupin, I'll watch Lupin. I don't need it to be made more "unique" or "modern" for me.

Yes, but Lupin is.... er.... well.... lame compared to CB. mrgreen
Ok ok, I don't really mean that, but.... you have to admit, Lupin is pretty aged and, let's face it, doesn't quite have the emotional impact of Bebop. While Bebop may be an homage, it still is very much it's own beast.

Cowboy Bebop: Beautifully animated and modern show with serious themes, an emotional, persistent overall storyline, memorable characters, and a kickass opening theme.

Lupin the 3rd: Super old-school and spy movie/Ocean's Eleven parody filled with constant and sophomoric gags and satire, dated animation, no persistent plot, great leading characters, and a kickass opening theme.

They're really not all that similar when you boil it down.

I disagree. The first season of Lupin is my very favourite and has quite the emotional impact in places. There is a new Lupin special every year, so calling it "aged" is a pretty empty statement in the first place.

The "constant and sophomoric gags and satire" are mostly only in the second season of the anime. razz If that's all you've seen of Lupin, you can't really write it off as "lame" so simply. domokun

You got me there, but I don't actually think the show is "lame" at all. I'd even call myself a fan. But you'll never convince me that it's "emotional impact" is on-par with or better than Bebop's. We're talking about a show that had an episode end with a giant stolen statue of Jesus from South America talk to the characters, crack a joke, then smile cheesily before the ending credits.
...
Man, that was a pretty good episode, if I do recall...

As if Cowboy Bebop didn't have weird amusing episodes? rofl I'm not trying to convince you of anything. You'd have to see more of Lupin to make a solid decision about all of it. But you're trying to tell me that it's crap, and I absolutely disagree. Cos I love me some Lupin. heart

wahmbulance *BUZZ* wahmbulance

Just to clarify, I would never try and tell anyone that Lupin is crap. I'm a fan. C'mon, I even have Lupin III's theme song burnt onto a CD! Don't I get any points for that?? mrgreen
