sorry about the terrible editing! i was in a hurry x_xTIME TO GET THOSE CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING!The Idea:We all grew up with fairytales, we were all told fairytales or read them at some point in our lives. In a lot of ways, they formed the backbone for our moral code. The good guys, the bad guys, what was right and wrong. You probably even had a favourite story. Ever wanted to bring those stories to life? Here's your chance. The Task:You must recreate your favourite fairytale in photographs. You may do this in either one, two or three photographs - it is your choice. How you lay them out is also up to you. You can choose just one scene to portray, or you may show the whole story. I do not care. If you're feeling super creative, you can even MAKE UP YOUR OWN FAIRYTALE [bonus points for this, I'd be really impressed]. BE REALLY CREATIVE WITH THIS. I want to see YOUR spin on the fairytale, not just the exact tale as it was written. The Rules:1. All images MUST be your own. 2. Editing and other changes should be minimal and done by you. 3. You are only allowed 1-3 images to tell your story 4. Images must be in on time. No extensions. 5. Entries must be posted as images. No links. 6. Your entry should be accompanied by a bit of back story [because we don't all know the same fairytales]. The WINNER: ANGIEMADEME with The Stone Elephant
THE PRIZE: Fairy Wings + Fairy Cloth + Fairy Shoes Total Value = 43200 gold!SO THE ENTRIES BETTER BE FRICKEN AWESOME.

Could we take our ideas from modern fairy tales.. like the books by Holly Black and O.R. Melling? Also, when I read this... the first thing that popped into my mind was a photomanip.. but then you said editing should be kept to a minimal.. So I guess those are out of the question? sad Would it be ok if all the images you use are your own? If not thats fine.. I was just wondering ^.^

I was just wondering ^.^ I wouldn't really consider those fairytales, to be honest. They're already modified from the original stories and myths, and the idea behind this challenge is to get you to use your own creativity about the original tales. I'm talking things like Snow White, Cinderella, Rose Red and Rose White, Hansel and Gretel. It's not very creative if you're spinning it off of someone else's modification, you know? And yeah... this one is restricted to photography only. It's kind of one or the other as far as competitions go; it's too hard to pit a photomanipulation against a photograph because the techniques that go into both are completely different.

So, it looks like I'll be the first entry sweatdrop The fairytale I chose was Little Red Ridinghood. The story goes (as poorly as I can tell it) that Little Red Ridinghood was taking some goods (can't remember exactly what) to her grandmother's house deep in the woods. On the way, she ran into the Big Bad Wolf that wanted to eat her, so he questioned where she was going and took a shortcut and got there before her. He hate her grandmother, put on her clothes and hopped into bed. When she arrived, she exclaimed the famous lines of "Oh my! What big [insert body part] you have, Grandma!" In the end, the wolf eats the little girl. However, she and the grandmother are saved when a woodcutter hears a commotion (Little Red Ridinghood doesn't go quietly, I assume) and he cuts the wolf in two and the girl and woman spring free. In my photos, Little Red Ridinghood isn't a little girl, nor does she have a red hood, but instead red hair. In the end, she isn't physically consumed by the wolf, but instead more mentally consumed and in turn, becomes the wolf herself. Edit-- I decided to make it only two photos instead of three. Photo 1: Photo 2: The first photo is also in my deviantart account, just so you know that that's me as well (and that I'm not cheating).

I just went with one little photo to portray the story of Hansel and Gretel. As the Tale goes; This family has these twins, Hansel and Gretel, and they can't afford to eat so to solve the problem the wicked stepmother convinces the father to abandon the children in the woods. The children make a plan to survive upon overhearing this plan. They save the bread that is given to them for breakfast and drop little crumbs while their father leads them deep into the woods. Their father apologizes for leaving them for the wolves before hurrying home and they attempt to follow him. Soon Hansel and Gretel find that their trail of breadcrumbs has been eaten by the animals of the forest and they are truly lost. After some time they come upon a house of gingerbread complete with candy trim and it is a sight for sore eyes as these children have had nothing to eat for a very long time and such sweets were practically unknown to their starved bellies. They dive in with unabashed fervor and have nearly finished off the porch when a portly old woman hobbles out of the wood and exclaims, "My house! Oh my poor home!" Hansel and Gretel are feel embarrassment wash over them now that their bellies are full. "We are very sorry Maam. We didn't mean you any trouble. It's just..." Hansel stammers and Gretel picks up where he left off, "I'm sorry but we were terribly hungry. This is such an amazing home! Is there any way we could make it up to you?" "oh child, thank you for your sweetness. Come in and I shall make you both a proper supper!" And so, Hansel and Gretel are brought into the aazing home. The woman kindly requests Gretel do a bit of tidying up around the back rooms where she keeps her jewlery and knick knacks and while she's away Hansel becomes prey. Come child I mustn't have you running amok." She says still innocently enough but he sees she intends to lock him up in a cage. She just manages it when Gretel runs back in the room. Horrified to see the new turn of events she tries to find a way to rescue her brother but the only key is in this ... witch's pocket surprised What will become of poor Hansel and Gretel? Well, Gretel is forced to slave all that evening preparing side dishes for a meal but the main course is mysteriously absent and the oven cool. After chopping vegetables for what seems like hours the with demands poor Gretel climb into the oven to be sure it's clean so the entree can be cooked. Now Gretel, amazed at her own bravery asks to see how it's done. She does so with good reason, for it seems this old witch intends to make both Hansel and Gretel into supper! So the with reaches way into the great oven, all the way to the back and suddenly Gretel seizes the moment, grabs the keyring that's become exposed in that witch's pocket and shoves her into the oven and bolts the oven door! "Should have known something was up the moment I saw a locking oven." Gretel says to herself. The Witch is wailing in horror and pain and Gretel cannot stand the sound of it so she runs to Hansel's cage and unlocks it. They run outside and wait for the screams to subside which doesn't take too long then they sneak back in and grab as much of the old witch's treasures as they could carry and they run and run until the forest start to thin. Amazingly they've found their way home but they approach with fear since they were left for dead. Their Father burst from the small hut and embraces them. He explains that the "new mommy" he had married had him under a spell which is why he led them off into the woods. Well, they knew straight off that he was back to normal and so they all hugged and hugged. Then Hansel and Gretel showed him the jewels they got from the witch's house and they celebrated all the more furiously. Hooray! Don't take candy from strangers right? So yeah, breadcrumbs in the woods. I hope it's good enough to win! smile I really want that prize!
