Now, this part may be tough. Can you afford new scriptures? It is best to get new scriptures that will hertofore be know as your "Missionary Scriptures." I can't tell you how important this is! Before any new missionary entered my group that I taught at my home, they were required to get new scriptures. I know that will be difficult for some of you. However you do NOT want to take your seminary scriptures with you on your mission.

One approach you can take to this is tell your parents that Christmas is coming up. If you explain that this is for your missionary prep classes, they might be a little more willing. I know scriptures are not cheap. You also want your name on your scriptures and on your carrying case. For example, my name is Garett Drake. (Garett d Luffy...I think that's how you spell it) is my 12 year old son. So anyway, my scriptures all say"

You want to make sure either Elder or Sister is on there. It doesn't matter if you end up going to Bulgaia, you will have these scriptures most likely all the days of you lives. So, Elder or Sister is appropriate.

Another reason for getting new scriptures is for marking purposes. You need to have a code so you know which scripture applies to what. Believe me, there are tons of reasons why new ones are appropriate. As far as I'm concerned, you should get a Tri and a Bible, with no tabs. Tabs get in the way and they make you dependent on the tabs instead of just knowing where the scripture is.

So, let me know which ones of you can get new scriptures and which ones can't. We'll do our best with those who can't. Maybe some just got new ones recently...let's say it's a quad, you can use that one. If you got new ones with tabs, you can overcome that.

Some other things you will need are colored pencils. These are cheap. You need to have the right colors. The best to get are: Crayols; Colored Pencils; 8 Non-Toxic Pencils. Another thing you need is a notbook. Not a spiral notbook, but an enclosed one. They sell them at Staples, and I believe they have 100 sheets of paper inside. You might want to get some sort of pencil sharpener for your colored pencils. You will also need two types of pens. One is a PILOT Precise V7 Rolling Ball. That is what you will use in your notebook. NEVER USE IT IN YOUR SCRIPTURES!!! It will bleed through. The other pen you need is just a run of the mill, ball point pen. That is for writing in your scripures. You will be writing alot and marking alot in your scriptures. I believe that is everything you need now. Sometimes it is nice to have classical or spiritual music low in the background; nothing that would disturb the Spirit. biggrin

Just so you know, those who entered my DTM program, had to give approximately 2 years of training every Friday Night. One Missionary studied for 4 years with me and his mission President basically told him he was the most prepared missionary he saw. Now while you will learn alot with me, you will learn TONS more out in the field. This will help you learn how to pass off your discussions faster and begin to learn at a higher level sooner than those who haven't had this. I want you to know, I take no glory for this. The Holy Ghost is my Senior Companion for life and He teaches me everything. Therefore all glory goes to God and I am just a tool He can use to help accomplish His will and work. exclaim

I have the scriptures! The first new ones I've gotten since I turned 8 all those years ago... biggrin

Oh wait, I have semenary ones...
But really, I have new ones for this thing.

Likewise, new scriptures aren't an option for me either. Mine are still in good working condition and are ready to be marked in so I think they'll do just fine. The only marking I ever did in them was scripture mastery.

OK, just use the best scriptures you have. If you can't get new onew, use the best, that are yours, that you can mark in and write in.

Does everyone have all their colored pencils?
