Discuss anything on magic, weapons, or armor here. No getting off subject. I mean it.

So, I think we should really start to talk about how we use magic in this thread. I think that it would be really enlightening to see how everybody had their system of magic work.

Magic according to me:

You have a reserve of energy that you tap into to cast your spells. It is different for everyone and depends on their experience with magic. If you run out of that energy, you can still cast spells, but it starts to pull the energy from your physical body, making you more fatigued with each spell you do.

That's a good way of thinking about it. Any other uptakers?

Mine's fairly similar to Nofitn's, albeit that you don't physically possess that reserve of energy, only energy to tap into the true source of magic.
I also have a rock-paper-scissors kind of method. There are three main categories of magic. Elemental, Spiritual, and Supernatural. I'll draw a diagram to explain it better. Just a sec.

Okay, the diagram is taking longer than expected. basically, there are the three groups I told you about before, Elemental, Spiritual, and Supernatural. All forms of Elemental magic beat all forms of Spiritual magic. All Spiritual magic beats every Supernatural magic. And all Supernatural magic beats Elemental magic.

Now, elemental magic is divided into: Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth.
Water beats Fire, but is beaten by Wind, and is neutral to Earth.
Fire beats Earth, but is beaten by Water, and is neutral to Wind.
Earth beats Wind, but is beaten by Fire, and is neutral to Water.
Wind beats Water, but is beaten by Earth, and is neutral to Fire.

Spiritual magic is also this way. It consists of: Light, Dark, Holy, and Chaos.
Light beats Dark, but is beaten by Holy, and is neutral to Chaos.
Dark beats Chaos, but is beaten by light, and is neutral to Holy.
Chaos beats Holy, but is beaten by Dark, and is neutral to Light.
Holy beats Light, but is beaten by Chaos, and is neutral to Dark.

Supernatural magic doesn't break the chain either. It has: Angelic, Demonic, Celestial, and Infernal.
Angelic beats Demonic, but is beaten by Celestial, and is neutral to Infernal.
Demonic beats Infernal, but is beaten by Angelic, and is neutral to Celestial.
Infernal beats Celestial, but is beaten by Demonic, and is neutral to Angelic.
Celestial beats Angelic, but is beaten by Infernal, and is neutral to Demonic.

Also, there is Healing magic- more advanced healing than others, Supportive magic- makes people stronger, smarter, or faster, and Summoning magic- self explanatory, summons creatures.

Using this method, all forms of combat magic have many things that they're strong against, and many that they need to exercise caution when they're going against.

I just think of magic as knowledge.
If you memorize the spell, it increases your knowledge, then your other spells get stronger also.
Spells need concentration and physical strength though, so doing multiple spells will cause fatigue really fast.

A agree with that, except it would make it hard for anyone to be able to fight and use magic while they're young enough to fight. But I do agree with that.

Magic for me is sort of a force that is channeled by the user. Sometimes, the person will draw the magical energy from the world around them into an aura that acts like a reserve for them to draw on. When the aura dissapears, the energy is returned to the things it is drawn from. A magic user is basically a person who can channel the energy in things. It can be specific, or general, like only being able to channel energy in water. or being able to command several elements. The channeling is what wears out the person, since the magic reserves aren't actually inside of them.

That's similar to what I think, but I didn't exactly know how to say it.

So I said it for you?

One might say that.

For me, it isn't so much channeling as it is manipulation. Some manipulate elements, others manipulate things directly, using what I deem 'pure magic'.

Here are my elements, in the order they go around the wheel:

Light -> Earth -> Water -> Moon -> Darkness -> Air -> Fire -> Sun -> Light

Then there are the mixed elements, but I only have a few figured out so far:

Sun -> Gold -> Light -> (N/A) -> Earth -> Metal -> Water -> Cold -> Moon -> Silver -> Darkness -> (N/A) -> Air -> Lightning -> Fire -> Heat -> Sun

Then there are the six abstracts:
Mind <-> Body
Plant <-> Animal
Life <-> Death

Those who have exclusive control over one element are known as mancers. (ie Shadowmancer, Aquamancer, ect.)
Those who control an abstract are often called -ics. (Pshychic, Physic, Botanic, Hic, ect.)
Mages are those that pull power directly from themselves to manipulate an element to do something for them.
Sorcerers are those that have control over and Absract, and also channels their powers through an element.
The abstracts are known as that, since they are just a concept, something no one can really control, just portions of it. As well as there being too many different versions of it to completly put it in an elemental slot.

If you find a secondary element that you think should be put in one of the secondary slots, please tell me.

Hmm... You guys have certainly made a difficult standard for me to live up to, but here it goes. I have eight main elemental types that can be broken down, and four extras, also those can be broken down. Those twleve elements are the magic created by the Twelve Elemental Orbs.

Fire - Ice: These are counters, and will nullify each other.
Lightning - Water: " "
Black - White: " "
Earth - Wind: " "
Steel - Gravity: These two are complements, and they are just one of the pairs of the Secondary Elements.
Sonic - Force: Sonic is sound, as Force is to atoms. Force deals with nuclear actions:
Divine - Demonic: Summoned magic from either the Gods or the Dark Lords.
Prismatic: Any mixture of magic minus Divine/Demonic.
Void: The mixture of Divine and Demonic magic.

The elemtental magic is called on by using the Weave a.k.a. The Art, and so on and so forth. Then the Divine - Demonic mix is the magic from the Gods or Dark Lords/Demon Lords.

Hmm... You should also have elements that complement each other.

For example:
Fire-Lightning = Flare
Water-Wind-Lightning = Storm
Fire-Earth-Gravity-Force = Volcanic
Fire-Water-Wind-Earth-Lightning-Ice = Prismatic

How does that sound?
