So, I've an appetite for anecdotes and little-known-facts having to do with world history. When I look for something to watch on tv, the first places I check are Discovery, History, and Science, on the offchance that they've got a special running that I haven't seen before. One of the reasons I have such a hunger for history is because of my book series. The timeline for the series encompasses all of civilization's history, and one of the fun aspects of the series is that it will involve a great many of the well-known - and many little-known - events of history.
What's the point, right? I'm getting to that, bear with me, I'm long-winded when I write.
I've basically got the BC side of history figured out. And while I have the major events of the AD side jotted down - Leif Ericson's settlement in North America, the Crusades, the discovery of the New World by Columbus, etc. - there is a whole lot of empty space in there.
The point is that I'm interested to hear what others would love to see brought to life. Brainstorm, shout out what your favorite events in history are. While AD is what I'm interested in at the moment, don't confine yourself to that. Anything you guys really love in our history, from time periods to specific events, or even pieces of architecture or fashions. Anything.
As an example, the time in South American history when the Spaniards landed, and the natives thought that they were gods. The stories stemming from that time are rather incredible, and the sophisticated buildings and contraptions the Spaniards saw of their world are to be oohed and aaahed over.

My favorite time in history? Uh.. first I'd have to say the invention of the computer.. then it would have to be the invention of... ANIME!!! Although, sadly enough I don't know the dates of either one.
If not history, I look forward to the day when people can finally build a livable environment in outer space... Some people don't see the importance of this and just tab it off as unnecessary, but if you think about it.. some day the planet might be unlivable, and the resources to build toward space might already have been used up. (gasoline and radioactive elements, fuel and electricity.. etc..) *tch* Procrastinators..... hahahahahah... XP

That sort of wasn't the point of this thread, but to comment on what you've said, NASA is already making plans to colonize Mars. Not only colonize it, but cultivate it. What's more, they're moving beyond the use of fossil fuels to get around in space, and are already building a Jupiter-bound satellite that's going to run on an ion propulsion system. Trust me, the colonization of space is not something NASA nor the rest of the space-minded community are putting on the back burner. The only reason it doesn't make headlines is because the projects are decades down the road to being put into motion, due to the necessity to develop technology capable of doing what they plan to do. We're hundreds, if not thousands, of years away from the world of Cowboy Bebop.

I love history. I've always been fascinated by the Roman Empire, especially towards the end.
Also, the legends of the Knights Templar and other such organizations. I want to research the history of those organizations to find out how much of the legend is fact, or at least close to it. ^_-
The medieval and Rennasance (I know I mispelled that!) periods are also fascinating. I love the castles, and lords and ladies. The whole era is fascinating.
Though there were many bad things going on during all the above periods, too. Slavery, for one. Oppression, which still happens in much of the world. I'm sure there are other things, but none come to mind at the moment.

Oh, I adore history. Things that I find especially interesting in history are the royals of Europe, and MOST especially, the events leading up to the French Revolution and Marie Antoinette.
Marie wasn't brought up to be a Queen, and was very much in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was married to Louis XVI when she was 14, and Louis himself was only 15 or so. During part of their reign they were still growing up! By the time they both finally matured to the point of seeing that there was something wrong and took responsibility for fixing it, it was too late. And the people getting angry at Marie buying so much stuff--during that time, she HAD to buy that much stuff. The way the politics worked, she essentially wasn't allowed to be wearing the same thing twice, and had to have a different outfit on depending on what the activity was.
Er... sorry. /rant
So anyway, I have a strong interest in that time period.

Awesome article about the KT *-* It would seem all of the scandals about the Catholic Church's history are slowly becoming undone. This little tidbit will do nicely in my books. Muahahaha. Gotta love Truth.
