I have a question 4 anyone..... I keep getting these e-mails to send cards and packages to "Any soldier" at Walter Reed Hosp. but my local newspaper said not to, that it is a safety issue and that they will not accept. Anyone know 4 sure? I usually donate stuff to my local VA, but would send notes or cards there, too,if I could. Thanks for any response.

I can't help either in that matter. I have no clue.
As for ideas for our Military loved ones, I'm thinking/planning on getting my boyfriend a cell phone (that actually works). His just royally sucks; bad connection everywhere, and expensive this and that. So since I have to get my own plan and bill, I figured I might get a family plan from verizon...
Good idea? Bad idea? Is there something better out there for him?
>.< I've never had to do this before, so any help would be nice.

for soldiers that are deployed, things like sunflower seeds and energy drinks, popcorn and candy. Be careful when sending chocolate though, only send it during winter, otherwise it will melt and not resolidify. For christmas I'm wanting a St. Christophers medal, there are medals that have the military branch on them, here is a link, its a good present for any military person, shows you care imo. http://www.catholicshopper.com/products/military_medals.html

Care package of some sort? Usual care package with some christmasy stuff in it like christmas candy and cookies. I'll try and think of some more ideas later. But that's what comes to mind right away

My husband tells me that it takes an EXTREMELY long time for care packages to get to Iraq, guys that left in early October sent themselves care packages before they left and they still havent gotten them, so make sure that anything you send wont go bad. And for christmas ideas i would highly recommend things that your loved one NEEDS, baby wipes is a big one, some toiletry products and just some little things that are special it doesnt have to much just something that will make them smile, such as something from when you first met or something like that. Or you could just save your presents for when they get back and then have a huge celebration of all the holidays that they missed (my family is going to have a Chrismabirthsary, christmas birthday and anniversary party)

Sorry, but if the military can not identify a package it will be destroyed, because there is the potential that it could be a bomb. All care packages have to be addressed to a particular person.

Yes, it's def. a security issue. Such cards will either be returned to sender or dumped. there are a lot of corporations that let you write a card, and they get it to a soldier though, like xerox.
