Well the answer is Linux has Linuxmail.org it is a free web and sms mail system which uses pure Linux servers, and the open source application Outblaze. To tell the truth this mail service may have been around for years, I have only found about it Monday when talking to the other Linux user at school. If you would like to spam my account there then go ahead my address is vendion [at] linuxmail [dot] org. (Ha take that spam harvesters xd )

awesome idea - though I much prefer the challenge of running my own mail servers smile
though I think my old .org email address was disabled, so I probably should get one anyway... I'm a collector of email addresses at various TLDs (not the CC TLDs though)... Now, if only I knew where to get a .int one...

Well if you want, I can host whatever domain you want on my server for ya smile
I have some awesome features, including SpamAssassin (of course), but mine's server side, and it won't even accept SPAM at SMTP time - thus you never even see it, and, it removes your email address from the lists of those sending it to you, since it's rejected as undeliverable.
I have some awesome aliasing capabilities... username+whatever@domain works well for giving "unique" email addresses to various sites that require one.... user+blah.com@domain for instance works well... additionally, I have time-based email aliases too... user#before#YYYYMMDD@domain would only accept delivery before the date specified in YYYYMMDD format... could do some PHP trickery on your pages, too, if you wanted...
="user#before#" . date("Ymd", ( time() + (7 * 24 * 60 * 60) )) . "@domain"?>
Email listed on your page wouldn't be valid past a few hours... Additionally, crawlers usually choke on +'d addresses - pb+getlost@phaseburn.net for instance usually gets emailed as getlost@phaseburn.net which of course doesn't deliver... Using SMTP encryption + authentication (works with every ISP I know, including those doing port 25 blocking, since it uses a different port), and I'm more than happy to host it for you...
Or share my configs if you wish to try to emulate my mail system biggrin

Yea if you can PM or mail some of your configs to me that will be great, this is one of the things that I want to play with on my own server. Then I can give my ISP email address the boot, and i will be happy when I do it to because they have crappy SPAM filters (thank god for SpamAssassin on my computers, else my inbox might be flooded with spam), and they also have no clue maintain their servers, I know more about it then they do (which is good considering I have never touched Orical in my life).

I'd be willing to do that, however I have no desire to keep said documentation updated or anything. Basically I update my mail system on a major basis every 2 to 3 years (not counting the various security upgrades to the daemons, I'm talking a full reconfigure + rewrite + feature addition, etc). But if you'd like one, I can draft one up this weekend while I'm at work I'm quite sure.

If your still willing to share some config files and such for you mail server I might see if my desktop can handle that on top of normal everyday use (I'll see what my 3.33 GHz processor can do xd )

I'd probably set it up on my home network's server, So I'll be able to help out where my limited knowledge of the mail system allows.

Have the beginnings of a howto up in the appropriate sub-forum. It isn't finished, nor will it be for a week, but I'll update it as I get time.
