Well after he had his kidney removed he started drinking. He is scarier when he is drunk. This is what he looks like after 20 beers, 1 bottle of Jose, and a whole night with the captain. Also, be careful of his hangovers. It isn't a pretty sight, either.

It was not the liver that was removed, but the kidney.
The liver was not removed until after the train incident.
