i've played flute for 4 years now, and last year i decided to join my school band, (in which i play the 1st flute parts and piccolo parts).
and i've had this trouble in which my piccolo solos are always too "blended in with the sound". my conductor says he wants my sound to be "over the others"
i so dont understand this... help..anyone??

Are you playing a high part? If you have low notes of course you're going to blend. Play with a lot of support and use LOTS of vibrato, it sounds alright on piccolo. That should help you stand out a bit.

Be sure that you're supporting your air and getting enough air into the piccolo. Piccolos need air too! If you have a teacher, have your teacher listen to you play piccolo and help you out too.

You'll need to use a lot of air to get your sound to not blend in. Espicially if you playing notes that are on the staff. Practice playing long tones on the piccolo at every dynamic level to determine the right amount of air you need for each note.
