Probably once or twice a week. Less, maybe.
I don't like polishing him or shining him too much because it rubs the silver off eventually. D: Dratishlyness.
I only really shine him to death before a marching competition or concert performance. :3

...uummmm....I should do it more.....
BTW, how do you get tarnish off pure silver. My Pic headjoint is super tarnished, and polishing it doesn't get it off, I don't know what to do cry

try Yamaha's Silver Polish. It gets everything off xD..

I polish my flute about once a month. Thats what my teacher told me to do. I got a cloth with my flute that has silver polish on it already and you just rub it on the flute and it takes the tarnish away... just beware that it also takes the silver away too... thats why you do it once a month... If you have a silver polishing cloth, dont wash it or it will take the polish out of it.... obviously

i really wouldnt worry about it... just dont polish you flute all the time... just about once a month should be fine... you dont want to get tarnish on your face! (my bd always makes fun of people with tarnish on their faces)

If it looks like it needs to be polished I polish it.
I always polish it before a performance. Which reminds me. I need to polish it tomorrow night.
At concerts, I bring the cloth with me since it is one of the best ones in the flute section and everyone passes around. ^_^ With that, it becomes monkey see monkey do for the flutes!

Mutt - Once in a blue moon. (Marching flute/starters)
Trevor - Once every few months. (Back up)
Mura - Once every few weeks or when I feel like it. (College/Master level)

Baby/Picc - Once every few days for a dust off, inside gets cleaned every time I play, keys are cleaned once a day, and the wood is oiled once a month to keep it from cracking and to make it have that rich, dark red color I adore! *purrs and goes back to petting her piccolo she just got back a few days ago*

I polish my flute once and a while. its been a little less lately, cause im getting a new one for christmas.

Well,I play bassoon,and I almost never polish it,so the keys are dirty and tarnished as well...

I don't polish mine very often, just whenever it looks like it really needs to be polished.

Ha. Well, my first flute is every time before a concert or when it needs it, the second is rarely cuz i need it fixed... (i haven't touched it in like, two months) and the third one is once a week ><
