THE ORIGINAL AVALANCHE HEADQUARTERS

COSMO CANYON

INTRODUCTION
This is the sub-forum that hosts the base for the newly revived AVALANCHE troops and leaders. It is the hometown of Red XIII and was originally the birthplace for the AVALANCHE organization. Most of this town's history is merely legend, even now. Red XIII's deceased "Grandfather's" observatory remains at the top of the town, as does The Flame Of Hope in the center of the town that burns eternal.

HISTORY
Cosmo Canyon is a pilgrimage site for those who wish to pursue the study of Planet Life. For years, Cosmo Canyon was protected by the a tribe of warriors. Nanaki (Red XIII) is the current guardian. Cosmo Canyon was once at war with the Gi Tribe but they were defeated by Nanaki's father Seto. Seto fought against the Gi Tribe, and sacrificed himself, and was turned to stone. Seto continues to watch over Cosmo Canyon as a stone statue.

During their trip to Cosmo Canyon, Cloud and his companions are told about the history and state of the planet by Red XIII's adoptive grandfather Bugenhagen. He senses that Red XIII hates his father, for thinking that he ran off when fighting the Gi Tribe. In order to let Red XIII see the truth for himself, he opens the sealed door to the Gi Caves, which is filled with ghosts of the Gi Tribe. At the end of the cave is Seto, as a statue. Red XIII learns the truth, and forgives his father. Seto sheds a tear of pride.

Nearing the end of the game, the greatest elder of Cosmo Canyon, Bugenhagen, dies at the age of 129. The two other elders are Elder Hargo and Elder Bughe. Both Elders continue to study the history of Planet Life.

It is also known as the "Valley of the Fallen Star".

AVALANCHE AND AVALANCHE
It seems puzzling that
there are now two different AVALANCHEs around, so we're here to help explain that.

The most notorious AVALANCHE is the nine-member group including Cloud Strife and his associates, who were the main characters in the FFVII game. However, this "new" AVALANCHE that's come around is actually a revival of the older terrorist group that Cloud's party was the last trace of by the time the main game rolled around.

This newer AVALANCHE has been revived with thanks to a new, radical leader who has reestablished the organization with less of a noble cause, but with the same amount of passion. Not only have they begun gathering members, but in the wake of Shin-Ra's final collapse, they are seeking revenge more avidly than ever before. The creation of Ravens has begun again, and the old underground facilities are once more operational and inhabited.

RAVENS

Quote:
They're more or less mutated humans. They are endowed with heightened senses and awareness, regenerative powers to a slight degree, and, to an even slighter degree, immortality. It is very difficult to actually kill a Raven, though it isn't impossible. If they are significantly wounded in one of their more vulnerable areas, which, for the record, varies for each individual Raven, it can result in death.

However, they are more animal-like than anything. They function on a primal drive, and are very much pack hunters. They can, and often are, used more as the spearhead of lesser ranks--a General of sorts, if you will. But they are more dangerous, more powerful, and more effective when joined together.

Failure to carry out a mission is more or less the ultimate shame and dishonor a Raven can suffer, and they have been conditioned to docilely accepted death as punishment if they fail to take out a target.

They're smart. Very smart, actually. Or 'cunning' is more the word for them. Just because they are basically war machines does not mean they don't have a developed sense of intelligence and resourcefulness. They are not, it should be noted, drones.

But they will not, and do not, connect on any level with anyone. They still /feel/ things, but it's basic emotions. Anger, confusion, fear, slight pain.

It's still debatable if they can care for each other or anyone else, but it's doubtful. They do, though, have a faint sense of comrades, though mostly it stems from organization and teamwork. Which are two of the things they excel at.

Again, I stress, they aren't emotionless.
