Okay, so the title is a bit misleading, the car is not exactly "new" persay, but here's the story: My aunt and uncle moved to a new farm about a month ago, and I helped them move in. Long story short, the previous owner left a few old cars around on the farm, and my uncle heard I liked restoring cars, so he offered me one of them. It's an old Chevrolet, from the 30's or 40's. Anyways, the question is, should I restore it and make it a show car, or should I drop a huge engine in and turn it into a fast (but mostly worthless) hot rod?

Restore it.
Although it is up to you, my opinion is to restore vintage cars like yours. To me, I'm more impressed by show cars than hot rods.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I'm pretty sure its already got a big ol V8 in it anyways (haven't got a chance to even tow it home yet though)

I retract my vote in the poll. Restore it! Perhaps mod just a little.

Perfect! I'll restore it, and tuck a little somthing extra under the hood! Possibly something bolt-on, that way if I ever enter it into a contest or something, I can take it off and put the original parts back on.

you'll certainly get more money if you restore it. But as I'm sure you're aware restoring it perfectly will take plenty of time and money.
What I would do is restore and mod it. Do what the kids in the 50s would have done, and use period appropriate mods if you can't find origional parts. I think that would be coolest. Especially if you win the lottery and can have a hand rolled chop top put on. mrgreen

Yeah, I suppose. Oh well, I've got some time left before I gotta decide. Plenty of time to weigh the options.

By the way, which Chevrolet are you talking about?
I'm picturing a vintage truck, but I don't think it's that.

I kinda wish it was, because I do love the trucks from that era, but no, its some kind of coupe. My uncle described it as "kinda the same shape as a Ford Model A, but its a Chevy", so if that gives you an idea what it looks like....It's just really like a big old roadster or something. I'm not exactly sure what the name of the thing is.
