before i say "discuss" here is my contribution to this post.

The dark matter is supposed to be the hidden matter that comprises of 90%(by some 99%) of the entire universe's mass..its existence was shown from the work done by vera rubin on the rotation of stars around the center of our galaxy.

dark matter is now widely speculated to be comprised of neutrinos.Initial thoughts about it comprising of a new kind of particles called machos is now done with(not that they are not existing..their existence is proven..but their mass isnt enuff to take the place of entire dark matter).

Now....speculate and discuss your opinions on this. This is one of those topics if solved can fetch u a nobel prize for sure(i dont consider it(the nobel prize) "great" ..personal opinion)

good day,

Well.. I still take the entire theory of dark matter with a grain of salt since it is still very highly speculative... problem is it has become a bit of a trend astrophysics and so many people assume it has almost been proven correct. Since I've been out of the loop for a while, I'd like to hear some of the arguments made for it. I've also read about a different approach a team of physicists is taking to explain the phenomena that dark matter is supposed to explain. That is Modified Newtonian Dynamics which in simple words states that acceleration due to gravity may not be linearly proportional to force. This would explain various phenomena without the use of an unknown matter.

Dark matter is still only a speculation. Scientists use dark matter to explain the huge voids in the universe, that somehow have a gravitational effect on neighboring galaxies. Also another reason is that some galaxies are way too small for the gravitational effect they seem to have on neighboring galaxies, so all this is easily explained with dark matter having mass, and thus gravitational effect.
But it could be something else...

I would suspect that there is matter there, the two most exciting explanations for what dark matter is, it being some exotic new undiscovered kind of matter, and the other, the even more exciting prospect that we need to modify our understanding of gravity are to possibilities I wouldn't discount. But as I see it the most likely answer is its not something totally unheard of. It could even be dead stars like the remnant cinders of a dead camp fire. The fossils of the first stars that had formed form only hydrogen and helium.
I would suspect that theirs matter involved but I would be far happier to learn that we have something new to add to our knowledge of gravity.

I would say it's some kind of matter that formed early in the Universe's history before the first stars were born. And since apparently most of the Universe's mass is supposed to be dark matter, then it would seem that only a small portion of the original matter turned into stars, planets, etc. The rest remained unchanged.
