I realize that for some people, inspiration just comes to you randomly and that's when you write. This is the case for me. But I'm just curious to what other people do to get into the mood of writing a fanfiction or what not =D

Usually, like your post said it just comes to me. But, as for getting into the right mood...either I'll listen to some music, play a fun game or even just walk for a bit to set the mood...no audiobooks as they seem to jumble my thoughts more than orgainize them smile .

Yes, reading helps to get in the mood. Even if its a bad book it helps by just making me go "Oh gawd I can do so much better than this!" and then I set out to prove it.
And if its a really good book that makes my own writing pale in comparison well then...I set out to get better.

Read, watch movies, read other fanfics, listen to music, and of course dream.

I get inspired by the weather, as well as other aforementioned things.

The idea for a new story usually comes to me at random as I'm taking a shower or in the middle of class and along those lines. But inspiration for what happens next or where the plot will go in the future and how characters will develop comes to me through music mostly. I've got different bands for different stories, and I can sort of picture AMVs for my fanfictions as I'm listening. I also read other people's fanfictions in the same genre, re-read some of my older works, or I bounce ideas off of a friend.
It's always worked that way for me.

Music for me too. And whenever I'm watching/reading/playing a video game or something, I can't help but make stuff up for it. Even if I don't like whatever it is, I find myself doing it anyways. I think I spend like, half of my awake hours, if not more on some days, in my own little world.

It's fun to do that, isn't it? x3
It helps me to roleplay as well. A series roleplay is like a fanfiction that you don't have complete control over. It's really interesting and gets me in the mood to write one shots especially.

For me it just depends on what I'm trying to do. Sometimes it'll come to me in my sleep, washing my hair, washing dishes, etc, but just as soon as I do get it, I make sure I write it down too! ^_~

inspiration comes to me at the weirdest times as well XD Sometimes a certain song, action or moment will capture my mind and set loose a overload of ideas, sometimes it'e through dreams!

It varies, really. A lot of my inspiration comes from daydreaming at work to pass the time; walking back and fourth behind a loud piece of equipment gets boring real fast. It's amazing just the things it comes back with, too. And that period before I finally fall asleep seems to spawn ideas, even entire scenes...that sometimes vanish by the time I try to write them out.
As for dreams, like Shirahime91 mentioned...that's a pretty odd one. Dreams can be interesting...or downright freaky, just depends on what you ate before going to bed xd

It either just comes to me in a spark of inspiration or I develop ideas via roleplays.

I listen to music, and think about how badly I'm procrastinating on updating any other stories I might be writing.
