River Twilight swam lazily through the backyard pool of his human companion's home. It was decent enough and warmed to be safely swimmable, even in winter. Since the house was quite it seemed his companion, a young boy, and his family were out.
It was well enough since it allowed him to spend time with his thoughts and enjoy himself as he pleased. Which at the moment meant eyeing the other Ocean kit that occupied the pool. A strong female of lovely coloring, so opposite this own. He smirked to himself as he noticed the subtle swell of her belly.
Since they were the last, it was their duty to rebuild the tribe. So, now was a good a time as any to start.
Falling Dawn rested on a rock with her eyes turned toward the grey sky. The clouds hung low and heavy, threatening to snow again at any moment. The irony was, she would soon resemble the clouds as she grew heavier with new kits.
She shifted on the rock so she rested more comfortably on her side and her gaze fell to her belly. It was already a little swollen and she could feel the kits in her womb move from time to time. Part of her was delighted at the thought of offspring but part of her was disgusted.
The mer male had only mated with her because she was the last female of the Ocean tribe and it needed to be returned to it's former glory. Falling Dawn snorted at the thought. He is far too arrogant for his own good.
River Twilight swam over and pulled himself up onto the rock beside her. "Lovely Dawn, how are my kits today?"
Your kits!? Falling Dawn sniffed, choosing to restrain herself for the moment. "Quiet."
River Twilight bent his head and nuzzled against the swell of her belly. "I look forward to seeing you heavy with kits, the motherly look suits you." He took another step over and nuzzled the female's cheek.
The dawn colored kit was unable to turn away from the nuzzle and grunted softly.
"You and I will have many kits together...lovely Dawn." He licked her cheek and lifted a paw to brush bangs from her eyes.
Falling Dawn snorted. "If I refuse?"
River Twilight drew back suddenly, looking suprise and a little offended, but the expression did not remain for long. "You won't, trust me." With that he withdrew and dove back into the water.

Morgath stalks along, his eyes hunting. The words Hugh had spoken to him made him angry. He looked back, hoping Hugh was right behind him to show him the way, and introduce him to the lady he hoped to meet.

Hugh padded after his lover tentatively. The other male seemed extremely upset and it seemed best just to go along with what he wanted, which for the moment was to meet Falling Dawn. "She's usually over by the pool, Mor." His tails flicked hesitantly as he continued to follow along. Hopefully this wouldn't turn into a scrap with River Twilight, as the mer male could get rather testy.

Morgath nods, and sniffs the air, scenting for water, then heads straight for it. "Thank you, Hugh..." He keeps an eye out, hunting for the female he'd been told about. His tail lightly lashed as he moved, prepared to deal with what he'd heard about.

Hugh padded ahead of Morgath to take a look around as they arrived at the pool. There was no sign of the male mer for the moment, which was good. He sniffed the air, scenting for the female mer. She was definately close by. He returned to Morgath's side. "She's close by Mor, probably sunning herself." The deep blue kit bent his head to nuzzle his lover's mane, then the other's slightly swollen belly.

Morgath smiles a little at Hugh, then refocuses. "All right." He looked around, following the edge of the pool. He keeps moving his head, looking for signs of the Mer female.

Falling Dawn was indeed sunning herself at the moment. The mer female prostrate on a rock with her eyes closed and tail trailing lazily back and forth in the water. As the fire males approached, the would notice she was asleep, or at least very nearly asleep. Her head shifted slightly to rest on a forepaw and she sighed softly. Perhaps she was just dreaming?
Once they got nearer the edge of the pond to speak to her the mers tails began to flick back and forth a little quicker. "Hugh, who have you brought me today?" Her eyes opened and she shifted again to glance up at the pair. Dawn's gait as she moved only made her condition more apparent. She was pregnant as Hugh said but now she was heavily pregnant.
Hugh was content to follow after his lover as she searched for signs of Falling Dawn. It was the other fire who caught sight of the female mer first and approached her, but suprisingly he was addressed first. "Evening, Dawn, this is Morgath...my...ah..." He glanced at Morgath, not sure how he wanted to be introduced.

Morgath looked at the female, curiously, studying the pretty girl. Finally he said "His mate." He didn't care that he was also obviously pregnant at the moment. "It's a pleasure to meet you, m'Lady."
He gave her a slight bow, of respect. "I came because Hugh was speaking to me... saying you seemed unhappy." The air around him got that distorted look it gets when it starts getting hot. "Unhappy in connection to..." He nods at her belly. "And their father. I... could not sit by."

The sudden use of the word 'mate' caused Hugh's ears to perk. "Yeah." He pawed at the ground lightly. The other fire drew closer to Mor and nuzzled at his mane, having noticed he was uncomfortable.
"River was...alright at first...now he is intolerable." Falling Dawn snorted and ran a paw over her belly lightly. "I would try to leave, but he will take the kits from me once they come into the world." She sniffed lightly and tilted her head to get a better look at Morgath. "It seems you are in the family way as well..."

Morgath's eyes widened and the air around him got even hotter. "TAKE the kits from you? Lady, what is he thinking? Is he... totally oblivious to the ways of our kind?" He snorts, and it comes out as steam, the moisture in his breath being steam from the heat of his anger. "That is unacceptable!"

"Yes, and on top of that he is stubborn." Falling Dawn got to her feet and shook off a little of the excess water from her tail, noting the sizzle as the droplets quickl disolved before returning to the pond. "He and I...don't get along as well as we used to."
Hugh danced back a few steps as he felt heat begin to radiate from his mate.

Morgath's eyes flicker, like flames seemed to dance in them. "That is not cool. You are... the lady.... the mother... You have the rights, in the family! How dare he!"

"I don't assert my rights generally, there was never a need to." Falling Dawn sighed. "Perhaps I should now...seeing as he's being unpleasant. It isn't as if he and I are mates." She snorted softly. "Don't work yourself up on my account, Morgath. It could cause early birthing if you get too upset."
Hugh sat and watched the two of them, not sure what exactly to do.

"I'm not too worried about it being early, they're already beating me up..." He snorts. "I was raised by the Shaman.... I'm not the kind to sit by and let things go badly, especially for a fair lady."
