First of all, Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship has problem is because of Inuyasha, not Kikyou. Kikyou gave up on Inuyasha, because she knows she is dead and can't go back to the way thing was between them. She distanced herself from Inuyasha. Every time they ran into each other, she always end up leaving him behind. If she really wanted to break up Inuyasha and Kagome, then she would have stick around and be part of the group. Then Kagome would be out of a job, since Kikyou can also sense jewel shards. So if you want to blame somebody, Inuyasha is a good start.
Second, Kikyou is not evil. How the hell did people came up with that idea anyway? Is it because she tried to kill Inuyasha when she first appeared? Or is it because she doesn't like Kagome? Yes, she did want Inuyasha dead at first, but can you blame her? She was brought back to life against her wish, and the first person she saw was the one she loved and believed that he had betrayed her. Heck, you would be pissed too. On their second encounter, she wanted to take him to hell with her because Inuyasha told her that he had never stop thinking about her. To her, it's better to be together in hell, than to live and not be able to forget about her. No, she did not do that out of hate, but love, just so they could be together. If you just follow the story, it's obvious that she is still love Inuyasha. Ok, she doesn't like Kagome and tried to kill her ONCE, but does that make her evil?? NO, it's natural for her not to like Kagome. Kagome has her soul, the man she loved, and pretty much the life she could have if she was still alive. Her jealousy of Kagome doesn't make her evil. How can she be evil if she travels around helping the sick and injured people?
I take no credit for this speech. I found it in another thread and agreed with it ™.9 percent biggrin (don't ask about the .1%..)

i agree too Kikyou is my favorite character on the show i think that kikyou and inuyasha belong together, in my opinion!

That argument does make some good points. Although I have seen/heard better ones. Don't get me wrong. I think Kikyou is a really cool character. But, that argument... I don't know. Before she seemed on the border of good and evil. That just made her sound wishy-washy.
However, I do have somethings to say in response to that.
If you truly love someone. You wouldn't want them to have to live in Hell. Even if it was with you. Even if you loved them. If she was doing (or trying to do) something out of love for Inuyasha, she should end her ill gotten life and allow him to mourn properly.
He's got Kagome now! Kikyou's reincarnation! She shouldn't be walking around too! Yes, her life (the one she actual was meant to have) wasn't the best one. She had to spend it protecting the Shikon Jewel. And because of that couldn't allow herself everyday pleasures. Couldn't love who she wanted to love.
Just because Kagome now gets to live the life that Kikyou wishes she could have, is no reason to resent her. She should be happy that her soul is now free to feel anger, feel love, know happiness that she never got to.
Also, she couldn't take over Kagome's role in the group. She can no longer purify the jewel shards. Now that her heart has been tainted.

I like both arguments.
I think that Kikyo should not be alive the way she is. Of course, she does help the sick and the young, she also takes souls. She isn't evil, but more of cold. You can't blame her for being cold. She was betrayed and killed and then her heart was broken when she found out about Kagome. I'm surprised she didn't kill Kagome on their first encounter. Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation, so her soul is already shared with Kagome's. It's basically like Kikyo is Kagome.
The only way to solve this problem though, is if Naraku never existed (Or if Onigumo died in the burning building). If that happened, InuYasha and Kikyo could live together happily. Too bad it didn't. crying

crying Kikyo is dead.... (highlite the rest, it might be a spoiler to some) even though shes alive in the fourth movie wich it way farther in the series cause of the diamond tetsusaiga in one of the scenes...

Kikyou is calm and cool in all situations but Kagome is the spitfire ninja But I have nothing against Kikyou ninja
