Merchant of Menace STORY The continent of Nevare has been shattered by a hundred years of wars. All nations fought in one of the wars at one point or another. Empires were shattered, new countries formed, and old countries united. The land is pocked with the scars of the long wars. The central trade way has been destroyed. All roads leading from the one end of the continent to the other end were forced to enter a narrower strip of land. Now they are destroyed, running through a desert that was once a forest, the whole valley having been destroyed by a series of firestorms that lasted for a month. The mountains on either side of the desert have been filled with bandits and monsters, veterans of the wars. And not to mention the distrust on nation has for another.
All sea-going vessels have been monopolized by three feuding shipping families. They clash endlessly, preventing any chance of using the sea for trade until peace comes upon the families or all but one are eliminated. So there is no way of being able to go by sea.
The only hope to heal the wounds of war is to find a way for traders to make the overland journey from one edge of the continent to the other without finding their doom on the trek. Only then can aide from one part give to the other.
A company is trying to finance a venture to try and bring back the trade of the both sides of the continent. They are hiring likely adventurers and merchants willing to make the risk and be the first to come back on foot from the other side after the wars ended.
But there is still resentment about the wars that ended over ten years ago. Resentment that may want this venture to fail.....

PLOT SUMMARIES
Me, being the controlling person I am, will every so often put a short summary of what has happened in this story. This will allow those who have been gone for a while to find out what has happened while they were gone. UPDATED!!! Braxtin and Tastin went through the Marble District and hired all those that they could. They then leave, going with the new recruits to the caravan on the outskirts of the town. There they sleep, ready to wake up in the morning for a new expedition to the other side. In the morning, they are confronted by Agripa, a powerful mercenary backed up by an even more powerful blade. He tells them not to continue on their journey, that war and doom will be the only thing they can bring if they reach the other side. He then leaves, having called seven thugs of House Regalus out of the mist surrounding the caravan to deal with the group. The party easily and quickly dispatches every single one of the Regalus goons, but with a small casualty, Braxtin breaking his leg. They leave, and when night nears, stop at an inn to stay the night. They plan to rest and get ready for the next day of travel. While there, they run into one of Agripa's agents, a changeling by the name of Han. There, he tries to drug Xanitos, and make Zane more drunk than usual. His attempt only worked on Xanitos, and he was discovered before he could try to disable and slow down any other members. He quickly fled, being cornered in the stables before taking a horse and riding off north, his thoughts of hatred centered on the wolf Sonire for looking in on his thoughts. Then, on a spur of the moment decision, he went south to head them off. Meanwhile, Alex and Dakota arrive in search of Rose, bringing along behind them a manner of strange creatures. All of which seemed to be after Alex, for reasons unknown for all except the monsters, who cryptic answers gave nothing to work off of. They rest that night, and wake up the next morning, heading south towards Good Crossing. On the way, some see a strange shadow that seemed to have been watching them. Some dismiss it, others prepare to fight it if it is hostile. At Good Crossing, Han appears again, planning on commiting a crime and framing the caravan. But, his plan backfires when he tries to get the Herin and Xanitos away from the crime scene, in the guise of a guard. Using the power of the Dark Lords, Herin tries to stop Han, who nimbly escapes and causes general panic in the crowd. But, before he could truly escape, he got caught by the party again. After several attempts at fleeing from them, the trap him in a stasis. Before he gave them any information, though, he chose suicide by an ancient magic, long lost before the days of Desel. (Dess-ell) With nothing left to work on, they return to the caravan, reporting one of Agripa's agents having been slain. After crossing the river, they were inspected by the officials of Karnee, but all went well. There, they meet up with the rest of Tirimin's troupe, as well as encounter with a strange shadow creature, seemingly the same one that they saw earlier. They travel, and as they pass through a narrow part of the road, sandwiched between two hills, a strange figure showed up, screaming at them about them walking into an ambush. Seconds later, the rocks began to move, and a band of rock golems surrounds the party. After a few minutes into the fight, the strange figure casts a series of spells, finishing off the golems, leaving nothing behind. They then reluctantly team up with the arrogant man, whose name is Vivit. After travelling some more, they then get stopped by a patrol of Karnathee soldiers, who insist that the caravan must stay and be escorted by the small army. The captain of the patrol then tells the caravan that at sundown, a banquet will be held in the honor of the caravan.

Tastin stepped out of the crowded tavern and into the white streets of the Marble District. Her white-blue hair fluttered in the light breeze that was blowing throughout this section of the city. The sun was directly above head. Half of her day was gone, and she still had not found anyone who wanted to come, or who was good enough to come. Her hand rested upon her thin rapier at her side, her light blue clothing moving in the same motions as her hair. There had to be someone in this section of the city who was willing to come. She turned and headed down the street, looking for the next tavern that she would enter in search for her needed help. Perhaps her brother was having better luck...

Braxtin's black hair blew into his face, the wind ruffling his dark blue clothes from behind. He was getting no where. He had gone to every recruiting company he could find, but no one would accept a contract to cross the continent. He sat down in one of the corner restaurants, on a chair in the outside air. The word of his venture was plastered in every message center and recruiting guild in the city. It said to meet him here, at The Rose Vine. No one else was here, except for the regular customers seeking refuge from the scorching sun by sitting inside. He propped his feet up on the table, his hand resting near the hilt of his saber. He could only hope that his sister was doing a better job of finding possible recruits.

Rose walked out onto the street looking around the wind blowing her long black hair in her face. she shivered as the breeze blew around her legs and blew her skirt around and it waved in the wind, she knew she should have worn more. she had been told that somebody needed help with something, but she wasnt interested with that, she was interested with where it was that they were going. she noticed a sign that said "Rose Vine" and decided that that was where she was suppose to be so she walked over looking around at the poeple. she had her hand ready at her waist on her whip, she had spent enought time in this town to know to always be ready for anything.

Braxtin looked around, hoping to find someone who at least seemed to be a possible candidate. He watched as a young girl came walking up to the resteraunt, and looked at the sign purposefuly and carefuly. The Rose Vine was an out of the way cafe, one that few knew about. No one would come looking for it directly, unless they were answering one of his recruitment forms. He placed his feet back on the ground and stood up as she neared. He took a bow, then straightened up. His hand rested casually on the hilt of his sword. "Good afternoon, madame," he said in the accent most commonly associated with traders, "What brings you here?"

A huge white cat was slowly walking through the streets of the marble district, causing stares and fear as it went along. It didn't notice the people staring at it, moving methodically throughout the section, seeming to be looking for something. Then the cat saw Tastin standing in front of a tavern and made it's stately way towards her, amber eyes looking pleased.

Braxtin smiled at her kindly and enthusiastically. He took his hand off the pommel of his sword and extended it towards her. "I am Braxtin. Pleased to meet you," he said happily, his voice was filled with joy. Finally someone had answered the recruiting information he had posted. Who knew how many more there would be?
Tastin was tired. She was standing outside a tavern debating whether it would be worth it to go in and try to find someone respectable and eager enough to come with her across the continent. Not to mention the looks she got entering a tavern in the first place. She was about to enter, when something caused her to pause. There was a comotion going on behind her, something was coming. She turned around slowly, staring into the eyes of what must have been a snow leapord of some species or another. "Nice kitty," she said, slowly backing away, "Good kitty."

Tastin stopped backing up, startled when she heard a voice in her head, but not in her ears. She looked at the big cat. "Uhhhhh, yes, I am. I am recruiting for a trading expedition." She looked around, making sure no one else was nearby. "Would you like to, uh, sign up?" She felt as if she was a crazy women, talking to a giant cat like it could hear her.
