Right, so I've been noticing something. This particular practice makes me very, very angry. People posting and bumping up a spam topic in the ED.
I don't care if someone is posting pictures of the failship, lolruses, gentle requests to move to an appropraite forum, or that French soccer player getting kicked in the groin. They're contributing to spam. Today there was a topic comprised entirely of random numbers and letters, and it stayed on the first page of the ED for three hours. If people had let it alone, it would have faded into obscurity. Report, and move on.
I don't want to be a tyrannical deathlord and attack people's behavior outside the guild, but because bumping up spam does break ED rules, it is the one and only thing (besides ToS violations inside the guild, which goes without saying) that I will consider banning a user for.
In two weeks, if I personally catch someone bumping up a spam thread, I'll start sending warnings. Three warnings, and I'll ban that person from the guild. That person will be free to argue their case, reapply for membership, send the OP of a misplaced thread a PM, so on and so forth- but if a person is contributing to the spamming of the ED, I don't think they really respect the other users trying to use the forum as it was meant.
And if I ever get this authoritarian again, you have full permission to overthrow me. Please post to let me know you've read this.

Yeah, it bugs me too. I've seen threads that are obviously spam reach at least 10 pages. There's no reason for it.

Oh. Yes. Sometimes I want to split them in two. Then I think, "Then there will be two of them." Then I don't.

Yeah it's really annoying. Although the creative ways that people say "GTFO" (complete with pictures), is really amusing.

As a matter of fairness, i feel i should mention something. If a topic is misplaced, but not inappropriate, it is not wrong to respond to it. You are allowed to respond to it as though it were in the appropriate location.
Of course, doing so is probably not a good idea. However, it is not against the rules (of Extended Discussion, though it may be against this guild's rules).

I agree it is an annoyance. Especially when the threads continue for several pages after you inform them it is a repeat topic and you link them the original topic.

Not a problem. I happened to have that very issue come up some time back, and had to ask a moderator. The rules are quite vague on some things.

I think it's fairly sad that enough people even click on those topics. I mean, most titles (as far as I know) don't have anything to dicuss. I have no clue how they get so many pages.
I'd don't think you're being tyrannical and/or a deathlord. xD I feel the same way, and I think it's a good way to start cleaning up the ED.

I think spam/troll threads can be fun to post in, regardless of if they're in the right forum or not. Instead of insisting that people let it die, why not report it so that it can be moved before it's there for three hours? I think you're blaming the wrong people.
