In The Sell Swords: Book III Road of the Patriarch, Entreri's past is revealed, and (I am very sad to say) that it is as tragic and horrible as the snippets in Icewind Dale and Servant lead up to.
While I am not going to tell you guys (sorry, you're just gonna have to get the books), I will say that there is a huge margin of hope for Artemis, one that I hope reflects in all survivors of the worst kinds of betrayal and abuse:
"What a cunning system you have there," Entreri said. "You and all the other self-proclaimed royalty of Faerun. By your conditions, you alone are kings and queens and lords and ladies of the court. You alone matter, while the peasant grovels and kneels in the mud, and since you are 'rightful' in the eyes of this god or that, then the peasant cannot complain. He must accept his muddy lot in life and revel in his misery, all in the knowledge that he serves the rightful king."
Gareth's jaw tightened, and he ground his teeth as he continued to stare unblinking at Entreri.
I would like to note that Gareth really should be careful doing that, the last time I clenched my jaw in rage, I broke a molar... anyway, to continue...
"You should have had Kane kill me." Entreri continued, "back at the castle."
"I am not your judge," the king said.
"Just my executioner," replied the assassin.
Since that is the book's intro, I have no problems sharing that with you guys... haha Though I must admit, my heart hangs heavy for all children of people who should not breed in the first place. Perhaps Arte, like Drizzt, will become another literary hero for me after all...? though I doubt he will ever mend his ways with Drizzt in the books. ...Still, wouldn't that be totally frackin awesome if he did join the heroes of Mythril Hall?
...Though somehow, I doubt Cat and Regis would ever accept him, all things considered... Still I am grateful to Salvatore for the creation of Entreri, as his character develops, I see a great deal of myself and am thankful for that insight... so rare is it to see the villain within from afar, rarer still to see that wretch become a man who walks with honor...
One can only hope...
I believe I have a very long night of deep contemplation ahead... as the parables of Drizzt and Entreri have too many shades of truth when held to the candle of my own life...

Oh, I suppose it should be somewhat explained why I appear so melancholy and deep in thought these days... (Yup, just realized that I might not make sense without explaining things of late...) And please accept my sincere apologies if I still lack the ability to make sense...
So I will simply post something I wrote earlier in reply to a dear friend (on and off Gaia) on my Profile comments and leave it at that. I detest having to write the same thing twice or repeating myself... But it is my hope that my ramblings might make some sense...:
I'm okay sweety, and thank you. Just exhausted and tired in ways too .... to describe... But you know love? Just when I think my armor's going to fall away from my skin and that my swords will shatter when I defend myself against one of the present horrors of my life, something happens to prevent it-- usually an angel comes into my life and reminds me (unintentionally) to keep fighting. Today that has happened twice, once here on Gaia from the random warmth and kindness of a lovely lady (and yes, you are also my every day unexected angel dear), and once in r/l (the social security supervisor).
And for that I am thankful for, so while yesterday was a truly awful day (except that The Justice League got a formal pardon on Justice League Unlimited), today is the day where I am quietly offering thanks to the powers that be for my troope of angels. And, much like you, they are probably unaware I see them that way. *smiles* And so tomorrow, I will pull myself up by my boot straps and fight the fight again. Today, however, is reserved for the every day mundane things like laundry and laughing and simply existing quitely and taking some small measure of happiness in that. Oh and making meat loaf... That too. I am conducting no more personal business today because there is none to conduct... I handled that this a.m., thankfully.
...And oddly enough (not metioning the sheer irony of it), today was neither quiet nor peaceful, but such is the way of things for me... Come to think of it..., I didn't get to make meat loaf, I had to make sloppy joes due to a lack of time... Ya' know, following that thought, I really used to enjoy irony... Now, at the old age of 30, not so much...

Amazon.com hon, trust me on this. The shipping costs more than the books!!! But yeah, it's a very difficult read for me personally, but very much worth it and on par with Salvatore's other works!

Probably. That's the only place I've found it. And it is cheaper to buy through Amazon anyway... Sorry.
I'm gonna leave the guild. It's too inactive, and I take being a member of guilds and the duities within seriously. So later days guys. Feel free to drop a line.
Besides, I just got a council position on an off-site guild and will be very busy with that.

Finally! I found someone who has read the series! His past is sad, but i love the Sellsword series. Jarlaxle and Entreri. Poor Entreri, royally fracked up.

Enteri's past was a surprise to me. All the while, when it hinted at his past, my friend and I were asking, "What could have hurt him so." Specially when it suggested he had been molested. It was so sad. But now I am curious to see what happened when he returned to Dwahvel.

Entreri had a hard life. I think it was better that he met Drizzt and had those battles with him because he changed through that. Then I'm glad he met Jarlaxle. Jarlaxle as an opportunist helps in any situation. wink

the theme of hope is very prominent in the books. (I shall say again I haven't read al of them). And of questioning the answers to everything. Which i think is very important and refreshing. Drizzt, a hero, often contemplates the very fundementals of good and evil. The series has many deep parables for everyone. Entereri is a very interesting character, especially when compared to Drizzt. It reminds me of how thin the line is between hero and villain, and how easy to cross. I am currently writing a story, and I plan to try and put as much insight into it as Slavatore has done with his series.
