Every human being is born with a connection to the spiritual, the supernatural, that allows us to see, feel, and interact with creatures that most people don't believe in. It seems strange, then, if we are all born with this connection, that so many people lose it by the time they grow old enough to do anything with it.
Rarely, a child will hold that connection and go on to see spirits, angels, and demons their whole life, but most often social pressure or fear pushes away the feelings and destroys the connection.
Somewhat less rarely, human go through the Awakening. Whether in a blinding instant or a long process, the world shows itself to these people as it truly is: filled with the spirits of things denied. Some gain the power to see, some to speak, some to fight, but all gain the power to feel these spirits.

The time has come for a Great Reawakening. Humanity needs to wake up to the reality around them, don't you agree? Let there be light.

First off, three character types.

Spirit (Angel): a creator, one of God's fingers, so to speak. Like it or not, an Angel is little more than a tool used by God to build the earth and humanity. Once that job was done... most of them were discarded. Left to wander the earth. Most, however, retained some of their power. These angels have the power to create, be it water springing from the ground or rock growing from nowhere. They are mostly tangible, but generally invisible unless the human in question is awoken.

Spirit (Demon): a destroyer, one of Lucifer's followers. They were once Angels, but following the Light One sent them falling from grace. Now they move among the humans, unseen and mostly powerless. However, Demons have one thing that their Angelic brethren do not. Each demon has access to a haunt that they can call their own. These haunts are tainted places, degraded by evil acts, that a demon can claim. Once claimed, these grounds become unholy and a Demon's power within it rivals that of the Archangels.

Human: The Awakened human feels bumps in the material of his world, though he may not always know what these bumps are. All sense begins with feel, as we are blind at birth until we open our eyes. Once we can see, then we can speak. Once we can speak, then we can fight. A human who is awake to the point of fighting can manifest their own metaphysical energy into any object, from a stick to a bullet, and use it to fight off the night.

((Time to get this sumbitch started.))

Devon moved slightly to the music that only he could hear, his eyes closed and the outside world shut out. Even though there were probably thirteen or fourteen other people on the city bus, he had learned not too long ago that they hardly mattered. Most were so engrossed in their own lives that they wouldn't even notice if the person sitting next to them slumped over dead.
He knew the truth, though.
The large headphones kept their voices out, and his closed eyes stopped the sight, but nothing could take away the feelings. He pushed the spirits out of his mind as best he could, but they still held his soul. Still clung to his spirit. The music helped, but it wasn't enough.
The bus came to a stop and he stretched his long arms. His cold blue eyes opened and he saw them, but they didn't see him. This time. He stepped off the bus and walked into his office. Devon had a crap job doing programming for a major bank. It wasn't all that bad. They let him wear what he wanted and paid him pretty well, so it had a few perks, but it was as if his soul slipped away a little bit more each day.
It didn't help that he hadn't slept in a few days...

Mikayla walked down the sidewalk to the mall. Yeah, it was still dark, so the place wouldn't be open. Did she care? No. Why, you ask? Because she's a lot stronger than her size accounts for.

To be honest, the young woman is probably older than the mall itself. You see, she's a demon. And, part of this city is her territory. Specifically, the mall and the bank beside it. Not many have th power to see her or feel her. So, she takes advantage of it and plays pranks on people in the mall or the bank.

All-in-all, she's a pretty easy going demon that likes to cause mischief. So, she's going to find some more mischief to manage. But someone is in her territory that shouldn't be.

"All right, who's causing trouble in my town?" she grumbles as she finds a spirit messing with a man. She laughs when she sees that he's having a hard time exorcising the spirit.

"Are you serious? You can't exorcise that? What is God teaching you guys these days? Whatever," she chuckles and walks out the door. He'll be fine on his own. Besides, he's probably got a friend coming to help get rid of the spirit. Hopefully, he would only be strong enough to get rid of the spirit and not her.

Devon sat at his computer, going over hundreds of lines of code, looking for the smallest discrepancy. This was the part of the job he hated the most. The higher-ups sent down thousands of lines of accounting and financial coding that supposedly had a problem, and a team of programmers was assigned to scour it until every problem was fixed.
Most of the discrepancies were missing periods or misplaced decimal points, but this time it was a suspected virus that had rewritten the code.
Devon couldn't concentrate on it. Unknowingly he completely passed thirteen lines of corrupted code that, if left alone, would spread through every piece of software connected to the system.
Lucky for the bank, another programmer was working on the exact same chunk of code due to lucky mismanagement.

That didn't stop Devon's boss from firing him at 4:30.

It was about then the demon showed up.

There, in that very building, what he had come to call a wanderer arrived. These wandering demons seemed to show up whenever someone was under a lot of stress and very upset. Devon sure as hell fit the profile.
He looked past his boss and said simply, "What the ******** are you here for?"
The demon laughed and pulled out a large golden coin, then held it between two fingers. With a flick of his hand, the demon tossed the coin high into the air and let it fall tilting and spiraling through the air while Devon's boss shouted that he wouldn't tolerate being spoken to like that, or some such nonsense.
Devon watched the coin fall, and for a split second, time seemed to slow and he saw both sides. On one was a skull, human probably, with chains holding the mouth shut. The flip-side depicted a lion facing away. Heads and Tails.

Heads he lives, tails he dies.

Devon's eyes widened as the realization hit him. This demon was toying with him, playing a sick game of chance, and his bosses life was held in the balance.
The coin hit the ground, bounced, spun, flipped, and fell to land for the final time as Devon looked away. As he did so, his boss stumbled back to avoid Devon's unexpected movement. The older man tumbled over his desk, fell upside down into his large wingback chair, and spilled over into the thick glass of the window. The chair cracked the glass with a sickening crunch and Devon looked back to see, in slow motion, the man he had once called Boss smash through a twenty-second-story window and a laughing demon.

A sick cracking sound erupted above her head. The window of the bank was being smashed by something. A chair? With a person in it, no less. She chuckled, thinking about the human toils and troubles.

Then, she saw it. It was a wanderer. Another demon. In her territory. If humans were going to be taken out by a demon in her territory, it was going to be done by her.

She made sure the chair landed in such a way to cause the least amount of damage to the man in it. He wreaked of a*****e-ness...Probably deserved to die, but whatever. Mikayla turned her attention to the demon that had caused the trouble.

"What made you think it was okay to hunt down humans in my territory, eh?" she walked closer to him, spotting the coin. "You're just a weak little wanderer, playing games of chance with the humans. Bet you didn't count on playing chance with another demon for your life, did ya'?"

She reached her right hand behind her back. There was nothing there, but, still, a crimson sword materialized as if she were pulling it out of a sheath. Thank Lucifer she was in her own territory. "Let's play a game of kill the wanderer," she smiled manically. With a single movement, she rushed the weaker demon and sliced him in half. He vanished into the cool, early morning air and she looked up to the window.

Her eyes locked on a human. He didn't look very old, definitely shocked about what was going on. Whether it was the fact that this man was just pushed out of the window or if it was because he was seeing a demon terf war, she wasn't really sure. She tapped the bill of her visor, allowed the sword to disappear and walked on. If he wanted to talk, she'd be going by the bank's entrance. She liked playing with the humans that could see her, it was a game to her.

Rafael wandered around the city, bored and annoyed. He looked at the man falling. Another human dead, he thought, and discarded it. He would be no one's savior.

((Look, Cody, I really can't follow your posts at all. When you sent the profile as John Constantine, I hoped against hope that it was either a coincidence or that you'd play comic book Constantine. Instead we get a poorly played Keanu Reeves rip-off. Your posts are unpleasant and don't really serve much purpose. I'm sorry to seemingly berate you like this, but I've had a bad day and I'm now getting complaints about your playing. Shape up or ship out.))
