i woke up to paaain.
general tenderness and soreness.

managed to yank my nose stud about halfway out during the night.
it was kinda bloody and crusty, so i put it back in place to
ease the pressure and soaked it and cleaned it gently.
popped an advil for the swelling.

anything else i should do?
it hurts to smile and yawn.
and it has a little bump on one side,
which could just be swelling i guess...

It's normal. You have to start regularily cleaning it again until it stops hurting, though.

how new is it?
You can use saline solution to clean it
clean it about 3 times a day
and if its that painful take some IB Profrin
get it checked ...im not sure how long youve had it
but it could be infected
what kind of nose ring?
perhaps the twist is irritating it?
and dont overclean it either. ive overcleaned my piercings before and
they took longer to heal and would stay swollen longer

i got a saline spray
and i use that on it now whenever
it gets irritated.
works really, really well.

also, i'm scared to take it out.
i'd like to know how, but nostril screws baffle me.
like, it's got a bend and i'm not sure how
to maneuver it at all.
so i'm just gonna leave it for now.

leave it in until it heals up again. It should twist out in a nice easy movement after it heals. If you can't get it, go to an experienced piercer to help you change your jewelry.
