This thread will contain important or otherwise potentially interesting information pertaining to the space colony Socat Station. Anywhere from laws and law enforcement to a break down of the sectors and partial list of residence.

Socat Law
-If it can be called that-

Socat Station is a lawless colony and as such it’s laws cannot officially be called laws, a better word may be guidelines for those who don’t want to be ejected into the emptiness of space. The SSHOC runs Socat with a fairly lax hand, not really monitoring the general populous unless an emergency occurs. Small patrols do comb the halls, but not in great number and mostly just to prevent violent outbreaks.

Law 1: No firearms or incendiary devises
The most important thing to understand, a projectile could potentially crack the hull of the station and cause decompression, and in a worst case scenario kill everyone on the station.

Law 2: The SSHOC withhold the right to intervene in any affair that may put civilians at risk.

While simple, these laws have served the people of Socat well.

S.S.H.O.C. - Socat Station Peaceful Operations Command

Mission Statement: “To deliver trained and ready soldiers to situations that cannot be resolved through diplomacy and maintain peace among colony residents.”

The station police, as they are most commonly known as, are small group of 47 highly trained men and woman, consisting of a currently fairly equal 23 male and 24 female operatives. These officers’s training, unlike the police of most Terran cities, is on par with that of the Terran military. This is likely due to the civilian to officer ratio being nearly 100:1, this coupled with the general nature of many of Socat’s citizens requires an above average force to maintain peace.

The training for these officers includes advanced weapons training, specializing in melee weaponry due the one of the stations few laws prohibiting the use of firearms; as such many can be seen carrying knives, tonfa, swords, and other comparable weapons. Most of these officers, however, are not trained in low or no gravity combat situations.

S.S.S.O.U. – Socat Station Special Operations Unit

Outside of the 47 “basic” level officers are 13 additional ranked officers hand selected by the SSHOC commander Shina, these members comprise the Special Operations Unit. These special operations team members are considered to be in command of the basic units as Shina cannot supply direct orders to 47 officers alone.

These 13 officer’s skill levels are considered to be far higher and on a completely different level than the basic level units, even considered to be legendary. All 13 members of the SO unit have some sort of specialization beyond their advanced training, be it heavy weapons, medical expertise, or even the supernatural, one member known to transform into a beast-like creature when provoked.

Additionally outside of these 60 members lies 1 other officer, the commanding officer, Shina. While often called captain her rank upon retiring from military service was in fact Sergeant Major, the highest rank an officer could achieve. Little is actually known about her as files pertaining to her military service beyond simple information seem to be classified, additionally she has never been seen in combat and as such her capabilities are unknown.

Even among the Terran Alliance Military the SSHOC is considered to be a formidable threat, while not in an invasion scenario should Terra wish to return Socat Station to it’s list of territories their military would almost be completely useless. Given Shina’s strategic prowess she would have no trouble working out the best way to defend the station from an army even 20 times their numbers.

One may wonder how with only 60 members, how exactly do they manage to keep all the civilians under control, especially considering half of them are Terran outlaws running from the law? The answer is simple, fear and respect, everyone on Socat has heard the stories of Shina and her SO squad. And these stories, some true so not so much, sway people from attempting to take control of the station even though their numbers are far greater than the SSHOC.
