i feel that technically the closest genre they'd fit into nowadays is metalcore/alternative metal (talking about vol. 3: the subliminal verses). they got rid of the rap a while ago, and added some more groove and thrash style elements to particular songs on the album. not to mention an alternative/hard rock sound being present as well.
but ******** that s**t, they're slipknot, who cares what genre they are? (people, but i don't xd ) i love everything by them, even from the MFKR and crowz days. so who has the balls to come out and admit their slipknot fan-boy/girl-dom among the presence of metal elitists? (i am a fan of "real" metal too, btw.)

Some of Slipknots stuff isnt very good, but it makes me really hyper for some reason and makes me want to curb stomp babies

Numetal isnt actually a genre its a classification bands titled as nu metal are bands that dont have one single genre but play different ones and slipknot didn't rap because it didnt have a rap melody it was fast singing/screaming slipknot self titled album is mostly genred as thash metal, Iowa is mostly genred death metal and Vol. 3 is infact a mix of both with some acoustic stuff thrown in, its because the albums are different genres that they are called Nu metal but linkin park is nu metal because they play punk, rock, hardreock and a few other genre's(do your reseach and you'll find out im right)

slipknot, is a good band , they been in the music business for a long time and will never turn to a nu metal band

i love slipknot but some of the band members have no point in most songs, but other then that its a kick a** band
