Act I: Negotiations in the Night

The moon was rather high on this night of all nights. Deep in the shadows stood a man drabbed in all white. The color he wore matched his long hair, accompanied by a pair of silk gloves that he used to pull the strands back from his face.

Behind him stood an old man. His wrinkled skin was like a wave over his arms and face. He had a full head of gray hair, accompanied by a cane that he used to keep himself upright.

Lsorir adjusted the strap of his gloves. He was waiting patiently for a pair to show up. He left Alaois at home for the time being, knowing the wyrm would be way to object to agree to this meeting if everything wasn't settled beforehand.

The darkness was little barrier to the starlight wyrm; this was her time of day and it showed in the confidence with which she walked. Her bonded was silent; apparently she didn't like the idea of this little meeting but the gold-eyed wyrm was willing to put up with that, she had a plan. Bella probably wasn't going to like that either but she was fairly sure the little creature would get over it in the end.

It wasn't long before she spotted the white-clad biped and then the old man. There was no serpentine form in evidence though, and the light wyrm found herself scanning for him. After a few moments, she decided that if he was there he was very well hidden and came to a halt, putting the other wyrm to the back of her mind.

"Greetings," she called to the pair of two-legs, ignoring the tightening of Bella's grip on her mane. "I hope I haven't kept you waiting too long."

Upon seeing the wyrm Lsorir's face twisted into a smile. He straightened, removing wrinkles from his white and gold jacket as he addressed the pair. He gave a lowering of his head, sweeping his hand toward his torso for a bow. "I'm honored that you both would come. I am Lsorir Gahinor, the bonded of the wyrm in question, and this is my dear old friend Bregre de Sanim. Bregre is here to represent the Vehren as I'm here to represent Alaois. I'm afraid my wyrm couldn't make it, but I assure you that the two of you shall meet as soon as it is possible." Lsorir got straight to business, seeing no need in curt small talk for the moment.

Bregre's head raised as his small oval orbs searched both the wyrm and her bonded. He smiled, walking near her. "May I?" He asked as he lifted an old wrinkled hand to stroke the wyrm.

Cloelia smiled down at the old biped and gave a nod to his request, feeling through their link that her bonded had done the same, albeit slightly grudgingly. "I am Cloelia," the red-furred female said after a moment, feeling that she ought to introduce herself properly given the circumstances. "This is my bonded, Belladonna Birchbank," she added with a nod to the green-skinned gnome on her back.

Bella nodded once more as her name was spoken and regarded the two males with cool green eyes. "So then," she said quietly, "what exactly is it that you want of my friend?" The words Cloelia had spoken to her of this meeting had seemed unbelievable, she almost thought that the light was playing a trick on her... but those gold eyes had been so serious. Whatever had possessed her friend to so much as contemplate this? She wished she knew, but the hooved-wyrm's mind was a closed book on that score.

The old man waited until after the permission to run his hand down Cloelia's back, feeling how soft she was. His hand ran the length of her spine as he circled around, inspecting her from head to toe before he gave a nod. "Quite beautiful in every way. The definitions of her are quite refined. I should have trusted your impecable taste Lsorir."

"Of course." Lsorir chuckled at Bregre before his eyes turned to look at the gnome. He wasn't aware that she didn't know of the plans, and then, neither was Bregre which showed on his face in horror.

"My dear!" Bregre stated in disbelief as he leaned on his cane and wobbled slightly from the weight. "We wish to breed Cloelia to our very own Alaois. We have need of a new hatchling for a member who just joined our ranks. Unfortunate that our guidelines don't let us breed to our own females. We will make it worth your while, and if two eggs are produced the other is yours to keep."

Cloelia rolled her eyes. "I did tell you Belle-Belle," she admonished gently with a shake of her head.

Bella grunted and gave a stiff nod. "Yes, well I was just checking. Can't imagine why you'd agree to this though." How could anyone put up with being talked about like... like... like livestock for Gods' sake? Surely Cloelia couldn't seriously be considering this.

The red-furred wyrm gave a snort. "I wouldn't be if there wasn't something I wanted," she informed her friend. "As there is however..." Gold eyes swung back to the pair of bipeds. "If I go through with this," she said firmly, "there is no guarantee that there will be a second egg. So, you're going to have to sweeten the deal for me, if you take my meaning." Hopefully they'd agree when she told them her terms; it didn't seem so very much to as, not when what they'd be getting out of this was considered. If they wouldn't agree to her terms, she could always walk away after all and then they'd have to go off hunting for another candidate and so far as the light wyrm could gather these people weren't keen to waste time.

Bregre wobbled on his cane a little as he straightened his back. He didn't like the gnome but decided to not voice this opinion. He usually had a lower standing of the wyrm in question but she was the one willing to work with them and so he actually found a small ounce of respect for her. "Of course Cloelia. We won't expect any of this done for free, and if the request is within our ability we promise to provide it."

"We do treat our wyrms well." Lsorir piped up at Bella's hesitation. "Cloelia will be given the finest while she is pregnant, both of you actually. We do not expect any differently. And longer if either of you should have it. She will be highly honored in the Vehren as a mother to the child." He played with the clasp on his gloves as he watched Bella out of the corner of his eye. "I understand as a bonded myself what it's like to worry about your wyrm. And if there is any way I can calm your fears let me try."

Cloelia nodded back. "Good," she said with a smile to the pair, "I shall tell you what it is I'm after then." Their words seemed promising; she might just get what she was after. "First, I shall accept your offer of hospitality until the hypothetical egg, or eggs, hatch. Secondly, and more importantly, I want you to find somebody for me." If Bella was going to flip out, it would probably happen now.

To her credit, Bella flipped out silently; indeed the only outward sign of the sudden turmoil within her was a stiffening of her face and shoulders. "You can't be serious!" she sent urgently. "We don't need their help to find him Lia, I can't let you let them use you like this for me or anyone else!" Damn, damn, damn; why did Cloelia have to be such a resourceful idiot?

The gold-hooved wyrm sighed and shook her head. "Actually Belle, I rather think we do need their help," she said aloud, feeling that it wasn't a good idea to keep Bregre and Lsorir in the dark. "We've been looking for this idiot of yours since we met, which is more than six years ago. He is one very small person in a very big world and two people with few resources let alone seeking spells don't stand a damn chance of tracking him down. As to 'not letting me' I feel that this is not your decision in a big, big way. My body, my life, my choice; I'm sure you can appreciate that." She hadn't wanted to rant, not really, but sometimes it was the only way to get through to her stubborn bonded.

"Now," the light went on in less tense tones, "why don't you tell these gentlemen about your friend, humm?"

Bella sighed, deflating visibly. "Fine," she muttered. "I still don't think you should be doing this but... thank you." Despite herself the black-haired woman found herself becoming somewhat exited at the prospect of people finding Ning for her. These people seemed like they were from a big organization, surely there would be a scryer or two among their number, that or one they could hire.

"He's a bit taller than me," the gnome began. "About two foot four I guess. Pale blond hair, pale grey skin and dark brown eyes." She remembered those eyes, their warmth, their smile... "He's a bard," she went on, "he had some skill with magic, too, generally goes by the name Beetle." Was there anything else that a magical tracker might need to know? Well, if there was surely they would tell her.

Nodding slightly as her friend finished speaking, the tall wyrm turned her gaze back onto the men she was negotiating with. “So,” she said, “do you think you’d be able to find him, and bring him to us?” Let them say yes, just let them say yes; she couldn’t imagine Bella’s disappointment if they refused now or said that it was beyond their skills and means.

"Beetle?" Lsorir nearly choked even before the name was said. His eyes buldged out of his skull for a moment before he regained his composure. He knew all eyes were now staring at him, Bregre's especially. It couldn't be that easy, could it?

"You know this man they seek?" The old man raised a brow as he turned to Lsorir.

Lsorir's eyes glazed over before he began to speak. "I do... I met Beetle and Tenar not long ago.. near the caves. It was a while ago, but I know what direction they were headed and if we start now we might be able to catch up to them."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 01, 2007 2:15 pm

All of Bella's skepticism melted away as the white haired man spoke. "You've seen him?" she asked, eager as a child. "He's alright?" She’d felt sure that something awful would have happened to him... Wait... Tenar? The green-eyed woman calmed a little, blushing as she realized how foolish she must have sounded. "Sorry," she muttered, "it's just... it's been a while and I was worried... Who's Tenar?" That sounded like a male name to her but she couldn't guess the species from it. Hopefully not a species small enough to be Special Friends; that was her prerogative.

Cloelia chuckled to herself as her friend's questions poured forth; this was definitely going to be worth it, she so loved to see her bonded happy. "Well then,” the red-furred creature said with a bob of her head, "it seems that we have an accord. Provide for myself and my bonded for as long as necessary and bring Beetle to us, along with this Tenar person presumably, and you shall have what you need of me." Tenar... Was this person a biped or had the grey gnome founded himself a wyrm to bond to? The latter case would certainly be amusing; Bella had been planning to brag about the bond she had managed to make, that would be blown out of the water a little if her friend had managed it too.

"I promise you... we'll find Beetle, as long as you keep your end of the bargain. In as much... perhaps it's time for you to meet Alaois, and remember your promise...no matter how disagreeable he is about this... because I promise he'll fight tooth and nail." Lsorir raised his head, his white hair bobbing at the movement. "As for Tenar... he's a hybrid wyrm that the bard got attached to. A shadow and fire if I'm not mistaken."

Bregre turned away from Lsorir at this turn of events, shaking his head for a moment. "We'd like Cloelia and you, Bella, to move into the castle for your stay. We want to make sure both of you are accomidated and that you have whatever you need. Leave finding Beetle to us. We'll send you reports on what's going on as soon as we find out. You may meet Alaois at the castle."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 01, 2007 2:39 pm

Cloelia's smiled faded to a serious expression, and she bowed her head deeply to the two men. "By my honor," she began, "by the light of the stars that give me my strength and by the lives of all those I love; I, Cloelia, swear that I shall do whatever must be done to keep my bargain with you."

Formalities over, the light wyrm raised her long neck back up and smiled down at the two bipeds. "I'm sure I can persuade him that cooperating is in his best interest," she informed them with a slightly wicked grin, pawing at the ground with one powerful hoof. So this was it then; she was going to be a mother, the thought frightened her more than a little but she had to admit that it drew her in as well. Her; a mother it was one of those tingly ideas that ran all the way down your spine, that suffused your whole being and filled you with a glow of warmth. Whatever the father was like, she was going to have a child; incredible.

Bella grinned, shaking her head to herself. "Damn,” she muttered, still grinning, "should've known that pretty-boy songbird would attract himself a dragon. Well then," she went on, patting her companion's neck in silent gratitude, "I suppose we'd better be getting to this castle so that Lia can be introduced to this Alaois then, hadn't we?" She was going to get to see Ning again! Oh she'd give him such a slap that his ears would ring for a week. After that she'd hug him, of course, but only once she'd given him that wack for making her worry so.

Lsorir's brow raised at the way Cloelia talked. She was certainly a firecracker which he found rather endearing. Maybe yet... someone can tame that water wyrm... He kept his thoughts to himself as he moved from the pair to glance at Bregre who nodded approvingly. "Alright... I think it's time to get to the castle."

It was a long trek through the mountains up toward the old gray stone building. 'Castle' was a loose term. It was a rather old building, large in size and bigger than even a mansion, but it was hardly a true castle. The hedges were all dead now with the coming of the season but once had been perfectly cut. Large stone statues followed the walk toward the stairs which led to the wooden doors.

Lsorir raised two fingers in the air and instantly the doors were opened. He motioned for the ladies to go first and then followed them inside. The floors were white marble with a red carpet that led toward the doors. The walls were eggshell white with tapestries lining each side. A set of winding stairs moved from both sides down toward the middle. It was, in all honesty, a true honor for either of the girls to be present in their society. No one was allowed in the castle but the Vehren's own, except on special occasions such as this.

"While here you will have your own attending. They will do whatever you ask of them as long as it doesn't break the rules of our order." Bregre informed them both and then clapped his hand as two girls showed up. "Please, show them to their room."

The girls, twins, curtseyed and smiled at the wyrm and her bonded. "This way please." One said as they began walking up the stairs. After moving up the long steps they turned down a hall, walking for what seemed a good five minutes before turning to a room which they opened. "Here you are." The same one said. "I'm Casina, and this is my sister Dahne."

The room was furbished with a large canopy bed for Bella, off to the side was a space set up with comfortable padding for Cloelia. There in the center was a table set up with food for both of them. "If there is anything you like just ask, the two of you are to be considered royalty while staying here."

Bella grinned as she looked about the room that was to be hers for a time. "Thanks, she said with a grin, sliding down from her wyrm's back onto a chair set before the table so that she could reach it. The food looked excellent, and the forest gnome was suddenly aware that it had been a while since she'd last eaten. This in mind, she grabbed a meticulously sliced piece of fruit, fruit in this season!, and bit into it. It was excellent, and the black-haired woman soon found that she’d eaten the whole slice and was reaching for another.

Cloelia on the other hand had things other than her stomach on her mind. "Thank you Casina, Dahne,” she smiled, “I have something to ask of you both already. Do you know when I may meet with Alaois, and where he is to be fond?" The sooner she met him the better; she'd been getting more and more nervous on their trek and she couldn't wait to allay her fears by meeting the water wyrm in person. whatever he was like, even if he was worse than she could imagine, she would feel better for knowing for sure.

Casina nodded, seeming to be the talkative one of the two as Dahne still hadn't opened her mouth to speak. "The master said you might want to meet him. I believe he's in his room, awaiting you actually. Dahne can take you there if you wish?"

Dahne turned and curtseyed though she still didn't speak. The ruffle of her black hair fell into her eyes and she pushed it out with a blush.
