When did you guys first read the series? How old were you? How did you first find it?

I think I read TGC for the first time not long after TAS came out in paperback, and I was about 12 years old, if I remember correctly... and I read it because my mom got it for me at the bookstore 'cause she thought it looked pretty cool. X)

My older brother gave me a copy of The Golden Compass for either one of my birthdays or for Christmas some year. (I forget, because the two events are only a little more than a week apart.) I can't remember how old I was though. Probably 12 or possibly younger.

I think it was probably about 3 years ago or so, I don't actually remember. I bought the Subtle Knife first before realising it wasn't the first one in the series *duh*. I bought them because they were cheapish and looked really cool. 3nodding

I actually read it for the first time this year. I didn't even know that the movie was coming out when I bought all three books. I ended up passing the books on to my mother right now so she's getting really into them. I only got the books because they were recommended by one of my Element Encylopedias that I collect. They gave a run down of Serafina Pekkala and I just fell in love with ther. <3

5th grade, when I was... ten, I think. Five or six years ago.
Read the first one for this thing called "Battle of the Books".
Basically, read all the books on the list and answer questions about 'em.
Most points from correct answers wins.
(I totally won. B] I'm so awesome... -eyeroll-)
Anyway, after reading the first one I was hooked!
I spent the next couple years thinking about what sort of daemon people I met would have. xD It was good fun.

My friend Chi said "omg, this book's amazing," and coming from her that's awesome praise; she's read every godsdamned book there is. So I picked it up, and read the golden compass in eighth grade maybe, and then stopped because it was really hard to understand, and then read the second ones obsessively, then got it like two weeks ago and just finished them all again.

XD I actually first read The Golden Compass when I was nine or ten. My step-sister was given it by her American pen-friend and I was bored so I read it. And loved it.

Then never could find it again.

Then one day when I was thirteen or so I was in a bookstore with a friend and she picked up The Northern Lights (I'm in Australia). Imagine my surprise when I read the first page and it sounded waaay familiar.

I first tried to read it a few years ago, when I was perhaps fourteen or thirteen. My mom got it in a bookshop, read it first, thought it was awesome and made me read it. I started with the first book, then read almost half of The Subtle Knife and considered it too dark and depressive to continue reading. I dropped it and forgot all about it until the movie posters started to appear around Moscow. Then I thought, "hey, it looks cool! Why don't I try to read it again?"
Thus, I got captivated by the story and read the whole series maybe a month ago. Now I'm 17.

Thinking about it it was probably earlier, more like about 5, 6 or 7 years ago. My memory's going in my old age (I'm 17!) sweatdrop . Oddly enough The Subtle Knife's always been my favourite book of the series, probably because it is darker than Northern Lights. 3nodding

I got them all and read them all within 2 years I got the golden compass first from my Grandma for christmas then the other two I bought when I finished. My favourite was golden compass or the amber spyglass they tie easily. The spyglass because it was really fun and I remember it better.

I watched the movie with my dad, first. I walked in there "Meh." and walk out "OMG!".
I got the books on Christmas. The into was too long to read for the first book, so I started the second. I'm almost done with The Subtle Knife now and I'm finding it hard to put down. :3
