I love this movie. It portrays Ed Wood as he was, with all the bad film making and such, but it didn't make fun of him. It was very tasteful. Of course, I'd have to assume that it's because the Burton/Depp relation took place here.

The movie was decent, but not one of my favorites. I think it was the quorky acting... thought thats how they were supposed to act... it was worth renting but i dont think i would buy it.

Well Ed Wood was the king of making cheesy movies and that was the point. I haven't seen the entire thing but now its a collectors movie now. I almost bought it but didn't have time to stand in line. *cries*

From an interview: "I'm not one of those actors who has to be called by his character name, but sometimes it is hard to shake the role at the end of the day or even the end of the film. Jarmusch came to visit me while I was doing Ed Wood, and we went out to dinner. He said to me, "Listen Johnny, you've got to stop this smile - I'm sitting here and I'm talking to Ed Wood and it's really uncomfortable for me, and I'm a little worried about you. Your mouth might get stuck like that, in this hideous grimace." biggrin

I love this movie. Any movie where Johnny Depp dresses in womens clothing is a winner for me.

I almost fell out of my chair or something when I first saw Johnny in high heels and that sweater. I think I started to hum "sweet Transvestite" or something from Rocky Horror Picture Show. But yeah...I feel bad for that Ed Wood guy. But hey, least his bad directing made him famous in the long run. Good movie, the black and white part took some getting used to though...

I just recently got to see this movie (Huzzah for on-campus movie showings), which was great 'cause I've wanted to see it for years now. biggrin I was actually surprised--it was much better than I even thought it would be! And the fact that it was based on the guy's actual life was just....cool lol! Though that word probably doesn't fit what I mean in my head. I mean, even if he stunk at it he did what he loved and had fun doing it--that's the way to live! Depp somehow has a way of making you forget you're watching an actor in role and gets you sucked up into the movie something awful. Hee

I rented it today and I'm very excited to watch it!
I'll post my review later.
I've already drawn a picture of Depp as Ed Wood (which some of you may have seen. I posted the link to my DA page in the art thread). I can't wait to actually see him being Ed Wood ^^

I'm glad that I rented it. I really liked this movie, it seems to have exceeded my expectations. If I get ambitious, I'ld like to draw another Ed Wood picture (this time with his fuzzy angora sweater, which he most certainly pulled off quite well. I loved those parts since he just made it seem so natural, even though he has claimed to have been uncomfortable in the strip tease-ish scene. As always, he transformed into his role amazingly well).
Depp's depiction of Wood was wonderful. You can really sense Wood's passion for his art. He wanted to spread his ideas and share his stories, and he didn't let faulty sets, filming sessions, or money problems stand in his way. You can also sense Wood's inner turmoil as he struggles with his transvestitism. He wants to be able to share himself, all of himself, with the world. The story about the man who did just that is what sparked his need to create Glen or Glenda. Johnny really lives as Wood, with goofy optimism and all. He also portrays Wood's relationship with Bela extremely well.
I thouroughly enjoyed this film. Plus, it had Johnny wearing woman's clothing, which he looks gorgeous in xD But, as we know, he's gorgeous no matter what.
