ive done my reseach on this subject and found out that NuMetal isn't a genre a NuMetal band is a band that has albums and songs that are not of the same genre as others of the same band
for example SlipKnot has songs in these genres - death metal, thrash metal, metalcore, rap metal(thats actually not rap),extreme metal, and screamo

another example is KoRn, their genres include - heavy metal, matalcore, hardrock, hardcore punk, rap metal, melodic metal, extreme metal, thrash metal and more recently(untitled album) a bit of death metal

one more, MuDVaYNe - death metal, thrash metal, extreme metal, hardrock, screamo and black metal

i got this information from numerous websites, including wikipedia one of the most acurate info websites in the world, and consultation from the 5 music teachers at my old high school

what i want to know is your opinion on numetal do you agree with me, the net, 5 music teachers(on of whom has been into metal since the late 70's), or do you disagree

i heard that korn and the deftones basically created nu metal by combining the groovy beat of hip-hop with downtuned hard rock guitar, and writing songs with dark themes. it seems that "nu metal" is what some people will use to describe either a metal band that doesn't use guitar solos, any hard rock band that includes rap, or simply a metal band that was around during the 90's. it seems to me that most "nu metal bands" are what you'd get if you took plain old rock & roll, downtuned the guitars, altered which notes are emphasized so that it sounds really bouncy, and have the vocalist switch off between screaming and singing in a mid-to-high-pitched voice. though there can definitely be alot of controversy around where to draw the line between nu metal and other genres such as hard modern rock or groove metal, but thats just for people who give a s**t about it and need to detailedly put everything into neat little categories. the way i look at it, is ******** labels like that, and ******** political correctness. i dont actually care THAT much what specific genres are what, its only a name someone put on it, and people that hate on me because some of the bands i like are too nu metal for them can go ******** themselves.
