Speaking from personal experience, I honestly see no use to quest in the Barrens anymore. There's a raid there nearly everyday, the company is awful, and the quest rewards don't offer nearly as much incentive as it does in Tranquillian (where you can kill a rabit and get a blue--well, not really, but it is much better.) or Silverpine.
I am not a Blood Elf or a Forsaken. But I do see the benefits of those areas. Silverpine's more obscure, and there are less people to compete with when questing. Ghostlands has better quest rewards.
For my orc warrior, I just got the flight paths to Crossroads, Thunder Bluff, Camp Taurajo, and left.
On my Hunter, I still held the Barrens in the benefit of the doubt and still quested there, but I just didn't appreciate watching my quest-givers being torn to bits by the opposing forces. I went to Silverpine during the last few levels of my teens, then fled to Thousand Needles.
But this is just my opinion. What do you think? (Please, nothing too harsh. sweatdrop )
*I'm on a normal server, if anyone's curious.*

I hate the raids but those SOB need a lesson. Maybe we need to get big guilds involved adn do hr shifts watching XR. It is so stupid but if u can get 5 to 6 lvl 70s hangn around maybe it wount matter so much. besides I did all the quests in the Barrens i was a troll i like the open plains better biggrin . Idk but maybe some 70s who r bored could help out ur plight in XRs. wink

Well, I actually alternated between the two....until I got an invite to RFC. I didn't know how to take the zepplin back to the Eastern Kingdoms, so I went over to the Barrens. I don't see why you're whining about it so much. Sure there are lots of quests there, but there are lots of times when there isn't anyone these when you compete with them. Why didn't you just party up with them? That's what I usually do.
I stayed in the barrens until I hit 26. Definitely somewhere to level. But of course, that was a long time ago.
Gogo hellfire peninsula biggrin

I very much enjoyed the barrens, NOT due to the quests, or their rewards, but how it was set up. I liked the music and such, and the area had a feel to it. I went to Desolace, I was really upset cause it reminded me of the 'emo' version of the barrens, specially with the kodos that walk to the graveyard and just vanish, but that's beside the point(I friken love Kodos...)
Also, there are a who bunch of 70s on my server that just sit there for long points in the day. I've also always wanted a guild called defenders of the crossroads...it be a cool name...and funny...
Gah, wandering off again...

I still hit up the XR for questing purposes. The hunter chain and the WC quests are just far too tempting to give up, even with the constant raiding.
Although I might try one of the other areas you suggested, if I decide to ever make a new character.

I don't mind the raids, really, since it's Horde territory. I do hate XR for it's sheer SIZE. It's one of the biggest areas!! ><

Barrens in general are useless and I hate 1k needles so I skip then whole area. My guys always finish off Durotor then its off to Silverpine and Hillsbrad. QGranted, the raids on XQR on Thrall are only a couple guys but they like to run and hide when a 70 comes, then run back, kill a questgiver then run again.

LOL~ I usually skip xr too. I agree with Tanahi about leveling in Tranquillien as it is much MUCH faster there [besides getting uncommon drops that seem like they fall from the sky] ^^ I ran all my tauren charas to Silvermoon from young >.>;;; XR attacks are common in my server~ most of the time no one really bothers, but when we do... twisted lol.

Guys, it's not XR...it's the Barrens. The Barrens it the biggest leveling area for lowbies in the entire friggin' game. It's an important staple for the Horde and Alliance, who wouldn't go there? It's baller 8D

I always here abotu xr raids but when i was still low enoughht to quest there no huge raids seemed to take place. Placing guards at xr would be rather pouintless sense the alliance would just laugh, at us and bring more 70's alliance do out number us so teh only real defense would be to sorm a capitol and kill the leader. I know on my server that there are almost know alliance in darnauss and exodar. However Xr is a good place to level and get decent items. it shouldnt take to long for you to move north to ashenvale, or southe to camp t, and then to 1k, or swamp of sorrow.

I've never seen anyone raid the crossroads more than maybe ... once a few months ago.
But it's most likely because you are on a PVE (normal) server. They can just walk into a horde area and not be touched because of the whole "Putting up a pvp flag" situation. So obviously, they have the balls NOW to go and raid a horde area. I'm on a high traffic PVP server and they dont even dare to try most of the time. So yeah, I guess all of you who are on a normal server would have this problem, and thats one of the reasons I left. It's too boring and people just kill useful NPC's because I cant do anything about it unless they put their "flag" up. rolleyes Buncha pussies, I say.
And the barrens can get you all the way from 12 to about 22 in a very short amount of time if you know what to look at.
So I guess my suggestion to you is keep going to the ghostlands, people I guess dont really think about it enough to raid it.

There is only one reason I even go to the Barrens anymore: Its the only place I know where to get poison and flash powder for my rogue*. I don't even attempt WC because everytime I've ever gone there someone has screwed up horribly**
* I'm only level 23 ** Except with more rogues. Stealth past everyone and only kill who we need to.

Ah yes, The Crossroads...eh, I've done a few quests there, and that was about it. Fortuntately for me, when I did those quests, I didn't encounter a lot of trouble with the turning in of said quests. Probably just lucky, I guess.
