Does the former have a place in the latter? Why so? Why not? Are you apolitical?

I believe firmly in keeping the two separate and having no government based organizations dedicated to any one faith unless of course it were recognized as a country's national religion on official documentation.

However, some religions do impose decent moral codes when understood and rightfully pursued by the right adherents of that faith. But... It would seem any sense of moralism and spiritual guidance is lost here at least in the United States with greed being the driving force behind most actions taken here. Or at least in my personal opinion. I could very well be wrong, but everything seems to tie into some way with the green god that is the mighty dollar. Of course globalization and imperialism are a part of that. But I'm not here to get too into politics.

I just thought I'd attempt to get some sort of discussion going seeing this guild is seemingly on its death bed. And I'd hate to see that. Especially if I had any fellow heathens here that followed the faith of the North. Anywho, enough from me.

Discuss.

*takes a deep breath*
While it seems like a good idea to keep religion and government separate, it's not entirely feasible. This country is BUILT on such contradictory laws and ways of thinking. Why was this country created? Because of religious persecution, so what did the early people do? Witch hunts. Church is supposed to be separate from state... so state gives churches tax breaks. Money says 'In god we trust' Yes, that IS general, but it's ALSO not saying 'gods' or 'goddess' or 'goddesses' or such, therefor any religion that doesn't just believe in ONE male god, is wrong says every (Ya ya ya, except the new ones that don't have it... that my mom refuses to take.. *giggles*) dollar and coin in this country. If church and state was truly separate, we wouldn't be told what religion the presidential nominees practiced.

Wow... turned into a bit of a rant... what was the question...?

Yes, in fact most religions impose a decent moral code upon their practitioners and that is a good thing, but people seem to be incapable of thinking and compromising when another believes different things. Wars are fought, people are murdered, and terrible, terrible things are done all in the name of religion... and that's not right.
Ok, random thought... Ever seen the movie Dogma? If not, I highly recommend it... Very good movie, funny, with a lot of thought provoking ideas crammed down it... and although it is centered around catholic beliefs, it comes right out and says that catholics aren't 100% right, or any religion for that matter... and the 'voice of god' is the Snape... *laughs* Alan Rickman is great... ^_^
ANYWAY, it's rated R, so if you can watch R movies, it's worth it... ^_^

Sorry for the ramblie random post... but hopefully it gave some food for thought and info...

Nothing wrong with your post. It caused you to think some, and write out your beliefs, therefore either questioning them, or reaffirming them the same.

My politics are not the politics of this nation's system. Mine are on a different level all together, but the expectations from my political platform are secular, and achievable by anyone wishing to work towards them. It's ethics. Honesty, hard work, committment, sacrifice, honor, courage, love for the land and one's own.

I still believe religion is a private matter and should be kept as such. The only thing religion would have to do with government is that they would no longer be tax free, but they would be taxed seeing as they are a business almost, making money off of "donations." No matter the religious organization, they would be taxed. Mhmm.

In this country religion and politics are like oil and vinegar, they go together but don't mix. Or in this case shouldn't mix. Despite the basis of America's founding. This is a little odd isn't it? HAH! I's a little funny as well...

And Dogma was HILARIOUS!

Religion influences everything that many people do and determines the lifestyle of many Americans, so naturally politics will always be affected by it. Religion should be addressed in politics but it should never be stifled. Laws should be made with religious morals in mind; after all, they're put in place to keep people safe and benefit the country. This is a difficult balance to maintain and I doubt any government will ever get the hang of it, but it's certainly something worth working toward. And until people can get the hang of religious tolerance, religion should be kept out of politics so that government isn't ruled by a single religion.
