A lone figure stands erect among the feilds filled with the dying. he stood there, the small boy, tears in his eyes and a bloodied, rusting weapon held tightly in his grasp. He stood there, on his family's field, where they all lay dead, or close to it. All of them but him. He alone was untouched by the plague visited on this land. He alone saw what truly happened here. He saw, with his young, innocent eyes, his family turn to monsters in a matter of days. He had killed them all, but only after he was sure that there was no humanity left in them. And so, there they would lay, untouched by decay, or by scavengers, on his parents famr. Untouched by time itself, in their own frozen eternity. That day, Jacques Sangrir Ganson died, and in his place was only Jacques, a urchin and an exile. Which is how he thought he would stay.

"Ahhhhhh!" Screamed the man in the bed. He sat up in bed, shivering, trying to remember where, and when, he was. Then it came back to him, his home, sort of, the Alchemist cafe. He had rented a room upstairs for the night, after finally making it back from the Brood War in the Abyss. He sat there, shivering, trying to forget the horrible images from his past his dreams always showed him. he hated to dream, which is likely why he did almost every night. he didn;t sleep much, but when he did, he stayed under for hours, sometimes even days. Days of pure hell, hell from his past.

If only I hadn't... no. I don't want to get cought up in what if's. he thought to himself. I don't want to fall into a cause/effect loop again, not after what I casued the last time. He rolled over got up, and fumbled through his discarded cloak on the floor next his bed. He found what he was looking for, a small golden locket, and popped it open. Inside was a picture of him, when he was younger, and beside it, a picture of himself now. Don't forget what happened to me. he said to himslef, thiking of his days as a child, he wasn't sure whether he was currently in the past or future compared to that, but he didn;t want to dwell on it.

He turned around, and began to strecth, all of his scars and tan lines twisting and contorting. Thinking of this, he slipped his clothes back on, and continued to strecth. He was fairly sure he was alone in the room, but he didn't like letting anyone, or anything know just how little of his body was actually his. Stolen limbs, organs, and skin, alongwith the parts he had manufacured himself, but only one peice of automail. His left thigh and most of his crotch, gleamong titanium, which he had made himself, and then later revised and updated to current standards. The only part of his body that he had been born with, was his heart, a silly thing to keep around, it had a nasty habit of failing in combat, which was a very bad thing to happen. But he felt he needed his real heart. He couldn't explain it, he just did.

After he had limbered up, and taken to time to meditate, he went down stairs in hopes of ordering a drink. when he reached the bottom of the stairs, he noticed something odd about the room. Everyone was staring at him, or making a point not to. Displayed on their faces were a wide spectrum of emotion, some fear, others hatred. Some showed nothing, their faces carefully neutral. Many held nothing but pity, but an overwhelming air of tension and fear hung in the room, almost stifling. He beleived he heard sniggering from somewhere, Envy most likely, the b*****d. And then he realised why they stared so, he had been telepathically brodcasting his dreams again. "Oh. Uhm... sorry about that every one. I can't really control when that happens. Sorry..." he muttered, wishing that he could still turn invisible.

Rei watched the man from afar. Her eyes were distant, as if she were seeing through him. Nothing definate could be drawn from that blank, distant stare, only that she was in a deep thought... and most likely not a very happy thought, for her lips were pressed tightly together and quivering slightly.
Though she was sure by the man's announcement that everyone had seen the memory, it had seemed so much more lively to her. Rei considered the reason to be because she herself had been part of a great, bloody war -though her personal consiousness could not quite remember it, another could- and that she could relate to the situation of being an abandoned child... But the pain of the man she saw on the other side of the room just seemed to overwhelm her.
Her eyes zoned back in to see reality, and she studied the man. A prosthetic on one of his legs, she had already known that from a long time ago - she had worked in a cafe filled with customers with automail for so long that she could immediately catch even the slightest difference in movement. He didn't seem... evil, was the word she was looking for. And she thought she knew the man pretty decently, though apparently not... It was a pity, she thought with a long sigh, that there were such lives such as his... Rei continued to watch him, her elbow proping her head up from the bartop.

"Eheh... So I'm just gonna make some pancakes... bye!" he said, ducking out of sight and into the kitchen. He was safe in there, at least from prying eyes, if not prying minds. Damn. I really need to figure out some way to block that... he thought to himself, just glad to be out of sight. At least he hoped no one wa watching, be cause he was not entirely successful in his attempts to hide his embarrassment, or the tears he had yet to wipe away that had been dredged up by his memories.

Rei was a bit let down when he suddenly dissapeared into the kitchen.
Heh, how odd. He's been through as much hell as me.
'Dont you mean US, Kira?'
I hardly consider us the same entity anymore, darling. I've got most of the memories.
'Gah, you're impossible, you know...?'
Way to offend yourself there, cheif.
'Quiet, Kira. But it's sad, you know? It's not fair that someone as kind as him should have to go through such tragedies...'
Tragedy is war's middle name, dear. Half the reason why I love war.
'You're a miserable person, Kira.'
Oh, yes you are.

Rei ended her convorsation with the depressing being there. Kira had been inside her for a while, and yet Rei still couldn't get over the fact that nearly all of her past memories had actually turned into a whole other being that was currently living inside her, sharing space in her brain while she schemed ways to become her own solid self... Rei had to wonder if she was just going crazy.
The redhead opened the large metal window that exsisted between the bar wall and the kitchen and called in, "So, how are those pancakes going?"

"Huh!? I... umm... damn..." found out... "Yeah, about that.I just needed an excuse to get out of the proverbial spotlight..." he said, drying his face and stumbling to his feet. He had been in the corner, in the fetal position. His robes were rumpled, his hat was askew. He hadn't exactly been singing himself to sleep.

Rei frowned. "Jacques... is there anything you feel like talking about?" She disapeared from the window for a moment, only to reappear inside the room, looking sheepish. Rei had this annoying habit of playing with strands of hair when she was nervous, and right now she was twirling a strand in a neverending spiral, never seeming pleased with her outcome. She silently waited there in the doorway for a few moments before sighing. "Unless I'm prying, of course... and if so, you have all rights to kick me out." She mumbled the last sentence, turning a slight pink color while her brown eyes drifted down to the floor.

"Not really. It is your kitchen after all, I just use the stove." he joked, a shadow of his normal self playing over his face. "Rei, I'll tell you what Ive told Khana, Angel, Sopheriel, even Dante-sama at one point; there are things from my past that no one else should ever know about. Horrible, evil things. Not just what I've experienced, but the things I've done... the people I've..." but he trailed off then, debilitating into a quiet sobbing fit.

Rei frowned, her heart broken. If there was one thing God had cruelly bestowed upon her, it was the inability to be able to stand watching an upset friend. Slowly, cautiously, she approached Jacques, watching him for a few moments before wrapping her cloth-covered arms around the man in a comforting gesture. "Shh, I understand..." She muttered quietly. "It's just... sometimes it's better to talk it out. Sometimes it makes the dreams fade a little..."
And you talk from experience?
'Hey, just because you're a big mass of my bad memories doesnt mean you have ALL of them... I can still remember a few that you probably dont.'
Hmph, unfortunately, I dont doubt that. Though I'll reject it all the same.

"You know what..."he said quietly, sudenly very still, and very still. "Its about time someone heard this." he said, shivering from some unseen chill. "WEll, we'd better be prepared for this. I think you are the only person who will under stand the most of this. But I'll need some time to prepare. Meet me in my room in 20 minutes, then i'll tell you my story." he said, getting up gingerly, so as not to step on her. He was 6'8" standing strait after all. He left quietly, but with a new determination burning in his eyes. He went back into the cafe, but he didn't stop to chat. He headed straight back to his room, he had things to do...

The twenty minutes felt like agony to Rei. So much though that she spent the time conversing with Kira.
You should let me talk to him.
'So you can make him suicidal? No way!'
Hey, why would I do something like that?
'Must I bring up...?'
...That one had it comming to him, okay?
'You're psychotic.'
Everyone's favorite.

After many more convorsations such as this, twenty minutes had finally passed. Rei stood up, a weird feeling forming in the pit of her stomach as she approached Jacques's room. She knocked softly three times on the door.
