I meditate when I first wake up, just before bed, and during any spare time I have when I want to regroup. I studied Hindu meditation a couple years ago with a teacher who taught me a great deal on the subject, so if anyone would like any advice I'd be more than happy to help you out.
Of course that was just one style of meditation. Over time I learned to create my own style of meditation which I formed based on my knowledge from class and outside research. I focus mostly on imagery since I use imagery quite often when working with energy. I've found from talking to others and from my own experience that it's usually more effective to form your own style or routine of meditation rather than completely take on the advice of another.
