Hey Reborn. We need to get together and ban this movie, it's an attack against Christianity. This is the newsletter I got from the Copland Ministries.
Quote:

With holiday movie releases just around the corner, we need to be careful what we watch, and what we allow our children to watch. The Golden Compass, set to release this weekend, is being marketed heavily and is gaining a lot of buzz among the general public. When lines between faith and fiction are blurred and when fantasy paints a dark picture—should Christians watch such movies? And more importantly, how might watching these movies affect our children?

Kellie Copeland, daughter of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and children’s minister at Eagle Mountain International Church, explores this topic in her article titled, The Golden Compass—Pointing Children in the Wrong Direction. Take a few minutes to read what God placed in her heart about what we should and should not consider entertainment. Click here for the full article.

God bless you, and remember…JESUS IS LORD!

DISCLAIMER FROM KELLIE COPELAND: I am not against any author, director, actress or anyone else responsible for bringing this movie or these series of books to children. We should pray, asking God to help them, as the Word directs us. We give thanks for them, so that our lives can be marked by godliness. “This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4, New Living Translation). “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” (1 Timothy 1:15, New Living Translation).

Go to the website, you don't have to read it all. Just enough to see that the author of that book is a very passionate atheist. The Golden Compass is the first of three books. At the end of which he writes that the children find God and kill him.

Reading that website breaks my heart, it hurts me to read some of the things this Phillip Pullman (the author) would dare to write about my love and savior.

He purposefully uses demons as the good guys, and in his worthless fiction protrays God with no power, and the bad guy. Mr. Pullman says, “We’re used to the kingdom of heaven; but you can tell from the general thrust of the book that I’m of the devil’s party, like Milton. And I think it’s time we thought about a republic of heaven instead of the kingdom of heaven. The king is dead. That’s to say I believe that the king is dead. I’m an atheist. But we need heaven nonetheless, we need all the things that heaven meant, we need joy, we need a sense of meaning and purpose in our lives, we need a connection with the universe, we need all the things that the kingdom of heaven used to promise us but failed to deliver. And furthermore we need it in this world where we do exist not elsewhere, because there ain’t no elsewhere.”

I haven't watched the movie so I don't know what made the screen. But I highly suggest that no one else does.

Gosh, it just gives me a knot in my stomache whenever I think about it.

Pray for this man, Pullman. God can turn his life around just like God did for Saul. Saul persecuted the church until God showed up in his life, and Pullman can turn around and start writing for God and declaring the glory of the savior!

Oh yes. How wonderful that will be.

I read those books in middle school. The first one seems okay, but once you get past that, it gets nasty really quick. It made my heart hurt to read the third one. I stopped about four chapters in, I think.

My art teacher has a poster up for the Golden Compass in her room. One day I stayed after class and asked her very nicely if she would please take it down, it bothered me. She turned around and rolled her eyes at me before I was even done speaking and told me that she wasn't going to take it down "just because the church said it was wrong." I didn't even know what to say to her. I was almost in tears by the time I got around the corner to my next class.

Why is every other religion allowed in schools but not ours?

I was going to see it, but then I heard what it was about! And of course, when I told all the kids in school why I wasn't going to see it, I got a lot of scoffs and eye rolls. Well, you know what! That's what I believe in and I won't subject myself to anti-religion just because people don't like it when I refuse to see/read something that goes against my beliefs! I tip my hat to any Christian who refuses to see this movie due to its hidden message! Bravo!
Go watch the Chronicals of Narnia if you want to see an adventure with a GOOD message in it!

Exactly! I'm homeschooled so I mostly hear this from my friends and family, but in my friends school, they had an islam day thing, and they don't even acknowledge christians, its incredibly wrong.

For me, I have an amazing principle and a.p. that are both Christians, as is my band director, and though they don't go around advertising it (because they'd lose their jobs), they are an amazing source of encouragement for me.

However, in my school, there have been cases I've heard of from my friends about them being yelled at for sharing Christ in school, suspended for reading their Bible at lunch and refusing to put it away, etc. And yet there's a girl in my school who wears an Islamic head thing every day.

That's so wrong! It's the same story time after time about how only Christianity is persecuted. ANd you wanna know why?

It's just that dumb old devil. That's why Christianity isn't allowed, but everything else is, because the devil isn't coming against islam or budah, he's coming against us, The children of God.

And it's not gonna work either. blaugh We've got victory on our side.

Silent Promise

Ugh, I can't stand it.

Some of my friends read / want to read it, it aggravates me since they're also Christian. They keep saying that they won't believe it but I'm uneasy. They say that they wanna read it 'cause it looks interesting, but what's interesting about killing God? I really don't want them to get obsessed with the book, and have it affect their lives. I mean people, it's a book. I don't want them to fall from God.

I thought it looked cool at first but... bleh... It's so anti - Christian. D: Just because Phillip is Atheist, doesn't mean he has to vent his anger on God and Jesus. Gawsh, it's so annoying. Can't he pick on a fake god? I mean, our God sees everything. Doesn't that guy know what it's like to hear things about you that you've never wanted to? Especially if you take credit phurr it and it's flamed?

But it might be the harry potter scare all over again. And those were alright, last 3 books sucked, but it was alright. Although what the man said, angered me.

Keep this in mind too: if you read the books, you are supporting the man who wrote them. If you buy them, the money goes to him, doesn't it? And even if you're borrowing it, SOMEONE paid money for the copy you're reading. I actually have a copy of the third book that I bought at a school book fair when I was young and stupid and didn't get it until I started reading past like chapter 3... I plan on burning it soon... But the point is, you can't "just read it", because if you do, you're still supporting it and the man who came up with the nonsense.
