The year is 1875 and gold has just been discovered in the Blue Mountains a couple miles north of a small, remote, community. Now this cluster of buildings, nestled in the foothills of Eastern Oregon, is too small to be called a town.
...Or it was, until news of Mr. Earl Pitt's recent discovery; Gold! spread, like wildfire, across the west.
Now people are flocking in from all directions to claim the last of the recently acquired Klamath, Modoc, or Nez Perce land. Many of the original townsfolk are pleased by this new influx. The saloon girls, the business men, and the more innocent single ladies. But there are more than a few who are less than happy with the newcomers. These crowds bring with them all of the problems that any Western boom-town faces; increased sinning and lawlessness. Gambling, prostitution, gunfights... Are the sheriff and deputies up to the challenge? Well, that'll have to be seen. It's the last big strike of the gold rush and the dawn of the age of Gunslingers and Lawmen. These types, not to mention miners, cowboys, entrepreneurs, and landseekers are among a few of the people you might encounter in the streets of this quickly growing settlement.
Whether you're here to earn money or gamble it away, strike it rich or bust, whether you're on the side of the law or an outlaw, one thing is fact: There is danger for everyone.
Whether the threat comes in the form of the irritated Indians, the sheriff, the man you cheated in that poker game, or even the army, one thing is certain: You'd better watch your back.
One more thing: Do you want to get involved in the 'community'? Do you want to meet your business competition? Or do you just want to weigh your new neighbors? Whatever your answer, you'd best be hurrying over to the first official 'Town Meeting' to cast your vote for town name and meet the sheriff and other town officials.~Welcome-[Story]-Rules-Profiles-Characters-Lists-Updates~

My rules are few and hopefully painless. Follow them and you won't end up like the guy to the left.Literacy - Is important in any literate RP. If I need to define literate for you, or spell out my expectations, then you're probably not confident enough in your abilities to be joining this roleplay.
::However, if you are fairly certain that you will be able to 'keep up', for all intents and purposes, with the rest of us -by all means, send me an application.
Grammar and Orthography - Will not be perfect. I will not delude myself, or anyone else, by insisting otherwise. This does not mean that you oughtn't to try.
::Spell-check : razz roof-read
And it's true, I prefer quality to quantity but I'm going to quote a friend here, who summed it up rather nicely:
]the better half of advanced is having the ability to use a lot of detail in one's post without going overboard. Spend a few extra words here and there on certain things, but do not go into excruciating detail. Posts should be both interesting and as well written as possible. ::I do not believe in minimums or maximums in a literate RP. If you're literate, you know how much is required to continue the story, to make an interesting post, and to give your fellows something to reply to. This doesn't mean you'll get away with crapy short-a** posts, but I won't demand eight paragraphs either. Don't make me change my mind on this point.
Dedication - I cannot force you to stay in an RP that has lost your interest. I cannot force you to post when you are busy. But I beg of you, if you have become bored with one of my RPs, or if you are going to be away for a period of time which might delay posting, please PM me or post a note in the OOC thread. It's always good to warn your co-RPers.
::Nothing kills a good RP faster than neglect. This includes procrastination.
Guidelines - Follow Gaia's PG-13 guildlines as well as the ToS. Godmodding is forbidden unless previously worked out between both players involved.
::Romance, Violence, Fighting, Cursing, Gore - all of these things are allowed, within reason. Keep in mind, this is the 1870's; certain words that exist now might not have existed then.
::This is a historical RP. No magic, no cars. Try to be as accurate as possible. If that means taking ten minutes to research before posting, please do so.
Posting - Medium to dark colors are allowed, as well as formatting; but avoid excess.
: razz lease use fonts between 9 and 11pt, for the sake of my eyes.
Other - May be added at a later point.

To apply: Fill out this profile form and PM it to me. I'm looking for content. A single small paragraph for things like personality and history will not suffice. Actually, as far as the guild version of the thread goes, it will. I'm not demanding advancedness in this thread, but I do need to know that you have a firm grasp on your character.
Include an RP sample with your application, please.
Please be sure that you can dedicate yourself to this RP before applying. Dedication is extremely important. It should not be too grueling or demanding, but be ready and willing to post when it's your turn, please.

Since this is the OOC-thread, I hope I'm not trespassing if I just go ahead and post. I'm thinking of applying with an old character from the Bone Wars, a 1x1 RP that has died on me. The idea is based on the historical feud between rival paleontologists Cope and Marsh. I found the idea of basing a roleplay on it intriguing, and the character could be worked into the setting, since gold is often found near siltstone beds that also carry fossils... what say you?

Will you be participating or just mod-ing? In the former case, I have a (possibly) stupid question about your character.

No they're not. There's a difference between how I can RP and what my standards are. That's why this one is negotiable, so that less adv rpers will still be willing to give it a shot.
And It depends on how many I have going when I have enough RPers.
What's the question though?

If I remember correctly from your collected works-thread, your character for this is riding an army horse. He'd be dangling from the next tree if he got somewhere and they saw the brand on it... or the military tack. Unless he has found a means to disguise it... did he?
